The Blue Whale Challenge is a dangerous online suicide game where participants are given daily tasks over 50 days by an administrator, with the final task being suicide. Reports found over 130 adolescent suicides in Russia linked to the game from 2015-2016. The game starts with minor tasks like waking early and self-harm, but escalates to severe self-harm and planning suicide. Players are threatened if they try to quit. The creator of the game was arrested for psychological manipulation of victims.
Eyetracking Photojournalism Research by Sara QuinnSara Quinn
Eyetracking Photojournalism is research for the National Press Photographers Association.
In an age where images are instantaneous and easily shared, what characteristics make a photograph worth publishing and sharing? We explore how people perceive the quality of photographs — from those taken by seasoned professionals to cellphone images that capture everyday life. The research combines eyetrack testing with extensive interviews asking people their thoughts on storytelling, quality and what makes images memorable. Among our findings: people value images that reflect their lives and give context to the world around them. As consumers navigate a glut of visual clutter, they are developing a new language on images. The implications inform journalists, brand advocates and community activists. Ultimately, the findings help us understand how social media impacts democracy.

HOPE OR SILENCED? — HOW SOUTH KOREAN CINEMAS LAUNCH A FUTURE WITHOUT CHILD SE...John1Lorcan
Although South Korean cinemas and shows are famous for their thoughtful social commentaries, they are often overlooked and regarded as simple commercial tools. Fortunately, in recent years, the movie Parasite and the Netflix show Squid Game have brought such a unique phenomenon in South Korea to the rest of the world. Other than social status, South Korean films often comment on child abuse, including domestic violence and sexual assault. Emerging as a tool to combat the lack of child protection laws in South Korea, directors and writers began and continue to carry the burden of seeking justice. This paper surveys several works of South Korean films focusing on child abuse to highlight how societies responded politically to films. The finding found that the combination of film techniques, Asian countries’ cinematic approach, and government reaction make South Korean social films unique in the world of cinematic arts.

2. • The Blue Whale game or Blue Whale
Challenge is believed to be a suicide game
wherein a group of administrators or a certain
curator gives a task to the participant to
complete it daily for a period of 50 days — the
final of which is the participant committing
suicide.
• According to a report, there were about 130
reported adolescent suicides in Russia
between November 2015 and April 2016
2
3. • Rina Palenkova, a 17-year-old girl who posted
a "goodbye" selfie moments before
committing suicide in Russia in November
2015 was the first case reported.
• A 14-year old student from Andheri in
Mumbai may be the first reported Indian
victim of the ‘The Blue Whale Challenge’.
• More than six children across India in the age
group of 12-19 years have taken their lives
allegedly playing this game within a span of
two weeks.
3
4. • Where can children access this game?
• Blue Whale is not a freely downloadable
game, application or software. Children
cannot access it on their smartphones through
app stores or on social media platforms like
Facebook. It is shared among secretive groups
on social media networks. The creators seek
out their players/victims and send them an
invitation to join.”
4
5. • Creator of the game is suspected to be Philipp Budeikin and is
being thrown in jail in November 2016.
• He was interviewed about the game by Saint Petersburg News,
and this is the answer given by him
"I truly was doing that. Don't worry, you'll understand
everything”.
"There are people - and there is biological waste, those who do
not represent any value for society. Who cause only harm to
society. I was cleaning our society of such people“.
Budeikin claimed that the psychological manipulation he was
administrating was intended to make the 'victims' happy. He said
he was giving them the warmth and understanding that they
didn't get that feeling in their lives.

6. STAGES INVOLVED IN
THE BLUE WHALE CHALLENGE GAME
1. MIND GAME STAGE
2. SELF HARMING STAGE
6
7. • There are 50 tasks in the game.
• It involve waking up at 4:20 am, this is because it
is mentioned in 3rd book of Bible that it contain
laws relating to priests and sin at that time.
1. MIND GAME STAGE
7
8. • Second task is to tell their best friend whom
they hate.
• And each task had to be proved by
photographic evidence, and submit to an
administrator.
8
9. • On day 3 teen is asked to watch a scary movie at
midnight, usually THE RING and update his status
too as
# I AM A WHALE
9
10. • Alienation from society begin when they are
tasked with watching scary movie through out
the day, and listening to the audio files that are
sent to them by administrator, these files
reportedly contain the sounds of breathing for
up to 3 min.
10
11. • The teen are asked to cut the word yes or f40,
f57 into their bodies, to indicate that they are
still in the game. some times they are asked to
poke needles into their arms, safety pins in
the cheek.
2. SELF HARMING STAGE
11
12. • At this stage most of them try to back out, but
they were blackmailed into continuing the game
with the threat that the personal information
from their phones will be released into the deep
web.
• In order not to get doubt for teens, they arrange
interaction with other whales by Skype calls.
12
13. • The task now begin seeding the idea of suicide.
• Some involving sitting with their legs dangling
off the roof, others are asked to climb up on to
bridges, some asked to go to a railway track at
4:20 am, which explains the high number of
deaths in Russia under trains.
13
14. • From day 30-49 the steps to the grand blue whale finale
begin.
• The teen is asked to make incision a day but not deep
into vein, watch scary movies and listen to the audio files
on loop.
• The last but one step is to meet with fellow whale who
will give them a time and date for committing suicide.
14
15. • The alienation is completed by the final upload on social media is a
photo of the teenager with their legs dangling off the edge of the
roof.
ACCOMPAINED BY THE WORD “END”.
• Most teens who have died had a giant blue whale carved into their
arms.
• THE CREATUER HAD FINALLY CONSUMED THEM.
