The Battle of Agincourt took place on October 25th, 1415 between England and France during the Hundred Years' War. King Henry V of England defeated the French army, securing an important victory for England in its campaign to expand its territory in France. Though outnumbered, the English forces were able to defeat the overconfident, tired, and hungry French army due in part to the effectiveness of the English longbowmen. The battle resulted in many French casualties but few English losses and helped cement Henry V's reputation as a strong military leader.

Hannibal
Hannibal was a Carthaginian military commander who fought against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. He inherited his fighting skills from his father, Hamilcar Barca, and accompanied him during the conquest of Spain. Hannibal later assumed command of the Carthaginian army in Spain, where he gathered forces for two years before invading Italy by crossing the Alps. Some of Hannibal's most notable victories over Roman armies included the battles of Trebia River, Lake Trasimene, and Cannae, where he employed clever tactics and strategies to defeat larger Roman forces. Ultimately, however, Hannibal was unable to defeat Rome and was defeated by Scipio Africanus at the Battle of Zama.

Feudalism developed in Western Europe following the decline of Charlemagne's empire in the 9th century. Under feudalism, society was organized into a pyramid-like hierarchy with the king at the top granting land to nobles in exchange for loyalty and military service. Nobles then granted land to knights who granted land to peasants, who lived on and worked the land in exchange for protection. Peasants had little freedom and lived difficult lives, but their servitude was tied to the land rather than being slaves. The feudal system helped provide security and governance in a decentralized political environment vulnerable to invaders.

Henry V was a popular king who worked to restore England's authority in France during the Hundred Years War. He successfully invaded and captured the port of Harfleur in northern France. However, his army was weakened by disease and faced harsh conditions as they marched towards Calais. At Agincourt, his outnumbered English forces used longbows and terrain to defeat a larger French army, achieving a decisive victory. This success led to further victories in France and eventually the Treaty of Troyes, whereby Henry would inherit the French throne upon the death of the mad King Charles VI, uniting England and France. However, Henry died of dysentery shortly before he could assume the throne.

Hannibal
Hannibal was a Carthaginian military commander who fought against the Roman Republic during the Second Punic War. He inherited his fighting skills from his father, Hamilcar Barca, and accompanied him during the conquest of Spain. Hannibal later assumed command of the Carthaginian army in Spain, where he gathered forces for two years before invading Italy by crossing the Alps. Some of Hannibal's most notable victories over Roman armies included the battles of Trebia River, Lake Trasimene, and Cannae, where he employed clever tactics and strategies to defeat larger Roman forces. Ultimately, however, Hannibal was unable to defeat Rome and was defeated by Scipio Africanus at the Battle of Zama.
13.2 - Feudalism in Europe
Feudalism developed in Western Europe following the decline of Charlemagne's empire in the 9th century. Under feudalism, society was organized into a pyramid-like hierarchy with the king at the top granting land to nobles in exchange for loyalty and military service. Nobles then granted land to knights who granted land to peasants, who lived on and worked the land in exchange for protection. Peasants had little freedom and lived difficult lives, but their servitude was tied to the land rather than being slaves. The feudal system helped provide security and governance in a decentralized political environment vulnerable to invaders.

Unit 4.4 henry v battle of agincourt
Henry V was a popular king who worked to restore England's authority in France during the Hundred Years War. He successfully invaded and captured the port of Harfleur in northern France. However, his army was weakened by disease and faced harsh conditions as they marched towards Calais. At Agincourt, his outnumbered English forces used longbows and terrain to defeat a larger French army, achieving a decisive victory. This success led to further victories in France and eventually the Treaty of Troyes, whereby Henry would inherit the French throne upon the death of the mad King Charles VI, uniting England and France. However, Henry died of dysentery shortly before he could assume the throne.

A series of wars between the French House of Valois and the English House of Plantagenet erupted from 1337-1453 over the French throne. The wars saw victories on both sides, with the English initially gaining ground under Edward III and Henry V, while Joan of Arc helped rally the French to push the English back. The final French victory at Castillon in 1453 marked the end of the Hundred Years' War and English control of French lands, except for Calais.

When they arrived at Harfleur, a disease called the flux struck both the British army and residents, causing fever, diarrhea, and intestinal bleeding. Many died, though the siege continued. The French initially believed they would win due to their enormous army size, but overconfidence made them clumsy, allowing the more agile British forces to claim victory despite being outnumbered.

While the French and Indian allies initially had success, Britain gained the upper hand after their victory at the Battle of Quebec in 1759. The war ended with the Treaty of Paris in 1763, which ceded French North American territories to Britain.
