The Aztec /ˈæztɛk/[1] people were certain ethnic groups of central Mexico, particularly those groups who spoke the Nahuatl language and who dominated large parts of Mesoamerica from the 14th to 16th centuries. The Nahuatl words aztecatl [as'tekat͡ɬ] (singular)[2] and aztecah [as'tekaʔ] (plural)[2] mean "people from Aztlan",[3] a mythological place for the Nahuatl-speaking culture of the time, and later adopted as the word to define the Mexica people. Often the term "Aztec" refers exclusively to the Mexica people of Tenochtitlan (now the location of Mexico City), situated on an island in Lake Texcoco, who referred to themselves as Mexica Tenochca [me'ʃika te'not͡ʃka] or Cōlhuah Mexica [koːlwaʔ me'ʃika].
Sometimes the term also includes the inhabitants of Tenochtitlan's two principal allied city-states, the Acolhuas of Texcoco and the Tepanecs of Tlacopan, who together with the Mexica formed the Aztec Triple Alliance which controlled what is often known as "the Aztec Empire". In other contexts, Aztec may refer to all the various city states and their peoples, who shared large parts of their ethnic history and cultural traits with the Mexica, Acolhua and Tepanecs, and who often also used the Nahuatl language as a lingua franca. In this meaning it is possible to talk about an Aztec civilization including all the particular cultural patterns common for most of the peoples inhabiting Central Mexico in the late postclassic period.
From the 13th century, the Valley of Mexico was the heart of Aztec civilization: here the capital of the Aztec Triple Alliance, the city of Tenochtitlan, was built upon raised islets in Lake Texcoco. The Triple Alliance formed a tributary empire expanding its political hegemony far beyond the Valley of Mexico, conquering other city states throughout Mesoamerica. At its pinnacle, Aztec culture had rich and complex mythological and religious traditions, as well as reaching remarkable architectural and artistic accomplishments. In 1521 Hernán Cortés, along with a large number of Nahuatl speaking indigenous allies, conquered Tenochtitlan and defeated the Aztec Triple Alliance under the leadership of Hueyi Tlatoani Moctezuma II. Subsequently the Spanish founded the new settlement of Mexico City on the site of the ruined Aztec capital, from where they proceeded with the process of colonizing Central America.
Aztec culture and history is primarily known through archaeological evidence found in excavations such as that of the renowned Templo Mayor in Mexico City; from indigenous bark paper codices; from eyewitness accounts by Spanish conquistadors such as Hernán Cortés and Bernal Díaz del Castillo; and especially from 16th and 17th century descriptions of Aztec culture and history written by Spanish clergymen and literate Aztecs in the Spanish or Nahuatl language, such as the famous Florentine Codex compiled by the Franciscan monk Bernardino de Sahagún with the help of indigenous Aztec informants.
Se denomina infarto a la necrosis isquémica de un órgano (muerte de un tejido por falta de sangre y, posteriormente, oxígeno), generalmente por obstrucción de las arterias que lo irrigan, ya sea por elementos dentro de la luz del vaso, por ejemplo placas de ateroma, o por elementos externos (tumores que comprimen el vaso, por torsión de un órgano, hernia de un órgano a través de un orificio natural o patológico, etc). El infarto al miocardio se produce al taponarse una arteria que lleva la sangre al corazón.
Los infartos pueden producirse en cualquier órgano o músculo, pero los más frecuentes se presentan:
en el corazón (infarto agudo de miocardio).
en el cerebro (accidente vascular encefálico).
en el intestino (infarto intestinal mesentérico).
en el riñon (infartación renal).
Si bien la mayoría de los infartos se originan por la obstrucción de una arteria (brazos, piernas, intestino, etc), los infartos pulmonares pueden ser de origen venoso por cuanto la sangre de la arteria pulmonar procede directamente de la circulación venosa a través de las cavidades derechas del corazón y es capaz de llevar un trombo desde las venas de las extremidades o abdomen a ocluir un vaso arterial pulmonar.
En el lenguaje coloquial, cuando se menciona la palabra infarto sin mencionar a qué órgano se refiere, se da por entendido que se trata de un infarto agudo de miocardio.
En cuanto a la manifestación en el electrocardiograma (EKG), un infarto se caracteriza por la tríada "ILI", aunque no se trata necesariamente de un proceso lineal, y en algunos casos sólo representa un problema cardiovascular y no la génesis de un infarto:
La evolución biológica es el conjunto de transformaciones o cambios a través del tiempo que ha originado la diversidad de formas de vida que existen sobre la Tierra a partir de un antepasado común.1 2 La palabra evolución para describir tales cambios fue aplicada por primera vez en el siglo XVIII por el biólogo suizo Charles Bonnet en su obra Consideration sur les corps organisés.3 4 No obstante, el concepto de que la vida en la Tierra evolucionó a partir de un ancestro común ya había sido formulado por varios filósofos griegos,5 y la hipótesis de que las especies se transforman continuamente fue postulada por numerosos científicos de los siglos XVIII y XIX, a los cuales Charles Darwin citó en el primer capítulo de su libro El origen de las especies.6 Sin embargo, fue el propio Darwin, en 1859,7 quien sintetizó un cuerpo coherente de observaciones que consolidaron el concepto de la evolución biológica en una verdadera teoría científica.2
La evolución como una propiedad inherente a los seres vivos ya no es materia de debate entre los científicos.2 Los mecanismos que explican la transformación y diversificación de las especies, en cambio, se hallan todavía bajo intensa investigación. Dos naturalistas, Charles Darwin y Alfred Russel Wallace, propusieron en forma independiente en 1858 que la selección natural es el mecanismo básico responsable del origen de nuevas variantes genotípicas y, en última instancia, de nuevas especies.8 9 Actualmente, la teoría de la evolución combina las propuestas de Darwin y Wallace con las leyes de Mendel y otros avances posteriores en la genética; por eso se la denomina síntesis moderna o «teoría sintética».2 Según esta teoría, la evolución se define como un cambio en la frecuencia de los alelos de una población a lo largo de las generaciones. Este cambio puede ser causado por diferentes mecanismos, tales como la selección natural, la deriva genética, la mutación y la migración o flujo genético. La teoría sintética recibe en la actualidad una aceptación general de la comunidad científica, aunque también algunas críticas. Ha sido enriquecida desde su formulación, en torno a 1940, gracias a los avances de otras disciplinas relacionadas, como la biología molecular, la genética del desarrollo o la paleontología.10 De hecho, las teorías de la evolución, o sea, los sistemas de hipótesis basadas en datos empíricos tomados sobre organismos vivos para explicar detalladamente los mecanismos del cambio evolutivo, continúan siendo formuladas
El utilitarismo es una teoría ética que asume las siguientes tres propuestas: lo que resulta intrínsecamente valioso para los individuos, el mejor estado de las cosas es aquel en el que la suma de lo que resulta valioso es lo más alta posible, y lo que debemos hacer es aquello que consigue el mejor estado de cosas conforme a esto. De este modo, la moralidad de cualquier acción o ley viene definida por su utilidad para los seres sintientes en conjunto. Utilidad es una palabra que refiere aquello que es intrínsecamente valioso para cada individuo. En economía neoclásica, se llama utilidad a la satisfacción de preferencias, en filosofía moral, es sinónimo de felicidad, sea cual sea el modo en el que esta se entienda. Estas consecuencias usualmente incluyen felicidad o satisfacción de las preferencias. El utilitarismo es a veces resumido como "el máximo bienestar para el máximo número". De este modo el utilitarismo recomienda actuar de modos que produzcan la mayor suma de felicidad posible en conjunto en el mundo.
El utilitarismo fue propuesto originalmente durante los siglos XVIII y XIX en Inglaterra por Jeremy Bentham y su seguidor John Stuart Mill, aunque también se puede remontar a filósofos de la Grecia Antigua como Parménides. Tanto la filosofía de Epicuro como la de Bentham pueden ser consideradas como dos tipos de consecuencialismo hedonista, pues juzgan la corrección de las acciones según su resultado (consecuencialista) en términos de cantidad de placer o felicidad obtenida (hedonismo).
Hay un debate sobre quién usó, por primera vez, el término "utilitarismo", si Bentham o Mill: John Mill (Autobiography, ed. J. S. Cross (1924), p. 56) dice que él fue el primero en utilizar el término "utilitarianismo" en relación con la "sociedad" que había propuesto fundar: "Utilitarian Society". Pero en una obra de Bentham, de 1780 (solo editada póstumamente), se descubrió que este autor lo usó primero que Mill, cuando quiso crear la "Secta del Utilitarismo" por esos años.
"Como movimiento, dedicado a la reforma -escribió Bertrand Russell-, el utilitarismo ha logrado, ciertamente, más que todas las filosofías idealistas juntas, y lo ha hecho sin grandes alharacas". Otra forma en la que puede decir es "el mayor bien, para el mayor número de personas".
Muchas teorías utilitaristas defienden la producción del máximo bienestar para el máximo número de personas. El utilitarismo negativo cree necesario evitar la mayor cantidad de dolor o daño para el mayor número de personas. Los defensores de esta interpretación del utilitarismo argumentan que ésta propone una fórmula ética más eficaz, pues hay más posibilidades de crear daños que de crear bienestar, y los daños mayores conllevan suicidio a los más grandes bienes. Es lo contrario del utilitarismo positivo. Defienden la producción del mínimo malestar para el máximo número de personas. David Pearce es uno de sus principales representantes.

The field of Information retrieval (IR) is currently undergoing a transformative shift, at least partly due to the emerging applications of generative AI to information access. In this talk, we will deliberate on the sociotechnical implications of generative AI for information access. We will argue that there is both a critical necessity and an exciting opportunity for the IR community to re-center our research agendas on societal needs while dismantling the artificial separation between the work on fairness, accountability, transparency, and ethics in IR and the rest of IR research. Instead of adopting a reactionary strategy of trying to mitigate potential social harms from emerging technologies, the community should aim to proactively set the research agenda for the kinds of systems we should build inspired by diverse explicitly stated sociotechnical imaginaries. The sociotechnical imaginaries that underpin the design and development of information access technologies needs to be explicitly articulated, and we need to develop theories of change in context of these diverse perspectives. Our guiding future imaginaries must be informed by other academic fields, such as democratic theory and critical theory, and should be co-developed with social science scholars, legal scholars, civil rights and social justice activists, and artists, among others.
