2. Point Breeze Boundaries
• Point Breeze is a community in the S. Phila. section of
Pennsylvania. It is generally bound by 25th Street to the
west, Washington Avenue to the north, Broad St. to the
east, and Mifflin Street to the south, although the
sections between 18th Street and Broad Street are
coming into their own neighborhood as Newbold.
Southwest Center City lies to its north, and Passyunk
Square lies to its east. Point Breeze is divided from
Grays Ferry to the west by a CSX railway viaduct over
25th Street.
4. Newbold
• Newbold, a makeshift neighborhood in South Philadelphia.
Spanning from Washington Avenue to Passyunk and from
Broad Street to 18th Street, although not legally sanctioned by
the city of Phila. Newbold recently became both vocal and active
in reference to a “Separation” movement from the Point Breeze
Community. As a part of a revitalization effort made by business
and home owners in the area, Newbold is now considered an
“up and coming” neighborhood, housing numerous well known
restaurants and businesses. The name was chosen by John
Longacre, owner of the South Philly Taproom and founder of
Newbold to better distinguish the area from the Point Breeze
Community of South Philly. The area continues to grow,
attracting young professionals as well as new businesses that see
the potential of the area. The new incoming residents appear to
only represent one particular ethnic group, by accident or design?
5. Point Breeze Alliance and Community Objective

by the City of Philadelphia

create and maintain a economical prosperous and healthy
physical, spiritual environment for the residents of Point Breeze
