1. Lilydale United Village
1.1 Our Vision
To provide an environment at the Lilydale show for local business to prosper and give back to community
providing a balance to create a village feeling with community values.
It is a project that invites community and business to learn and share with each other.
1.2 Development of LUV
This project will be developed by anyone in the community who wishes to support aligning community
values with the business community.
So far our team is made up of the people listed in Point 6 of this document.
The issues facing the 21st century are that business and community have lost sight of the importance of
being part of community. By engaging business people in this project is a way of bridging this gap.
1.3 Ethics and Values
It is imperative that businesses involved understand the important community values.
These values are:
Abundance
Unity
Health and wellbeing
Synergy
Global ecological
awareness
Progressive
Creating a sustainable future for all
creatures.
Willingness to change
Community and business focused
Fun
Living and working with community
It would be valuable to create a steering committee to ensure that these values are upheld
during the implementation of this project.
1.4 Partnerships
This project is an initiative of the Shire of the Yarra Ranges. We have formed partnerships with
The Agriculture and Horticulture Society, the Lilydale Rotary club and Lilydale Chamber of
Commerce. We are looking forward to forming partnerships with our major sponsors.
1.5 Similar projects
Village Well are an organisation committed to bringing the Village feeling to particular localities
throughout the world. They have already had success in creating a Village feel in Flinders Lane,
Melbourne, Chadstone shopping Centre and are currently working on re-developing the Mt
Evelyn Main Street. It is our intention to leverage off what they have learnt by having an alliance
Gilbert Rochecouste from Village Well. Gilbert has been involved in this project as a mentour.
2. 1.6 Activities at the show:
A treasure hunt
This will involve the participants to visit stalls in our village, other stalls
at the show and shops surrounding the show. Each stall holder/shop
will create a game activity (to be decided by the stall holder. Each store
holder will be given a 300mm X300mm cardboard sign (See fig. 1) to
display in their tent to show their participation and support.
Major prizes will be given away twice daily for the
lucky entrance in the village treasure hunt and we
will have lots of music, games and free fun for
both parents and kids.
Businesses that have a stall in the Village will have
their name on the game board. The nominated
major business sponsor for this project will have
their name in the centre of this game board.
(see fig. 2.).
15,000 of this game board will be printed and
handed out to all families who attend the show.
25,000 people attended the show last year.
Sprookers on Main Street
The Main Street will be wired for sound with a Public Address system that will cover from
Anderson Street to the railway station on both sides of the road and into the show grounds.
Roving reporters will be talking to shop owners about what is on offer at their business. This is
designed to encourage visitors to the show to check out what the local shops have on offer and
to encourage local shoppers to visit the show and the LUV Community Village.
Learning program
Tents will be set up specifically as workshop spaces. Businesses, artists, Healers and local
community members will running workshops on how they or their business contributes to the
community. There will be various businesses, community services and learning tents where you
can watch or participate in good old fashion fun.
Aboriginal presence
Since the original village tribe was aboriginal, the aboriginal community is invited to play an
active part in this project. Activities will include: Story telling, Aboriginal art and native plants.
An opening ceremony will performed by the indigenous people of this land.
Music
Local artists are invited to share their music gifts and entertain the Village in an open mike
setting. Local artists will have the opportunity to:
1. Play your music and entertain a captive audience
2. Promote and sell your CD's.

winery precinct, where the general public can enjoy wine tasting. The wineries also have an
opportunity to sell their wines and promote their winery.

and that the directory will be a way of community and businesses supporting each other beyond
the show.

The web page shown below is a draft of what will be available. This website is to also house the
directory of businesses after the show. It will have links to the major sponsors and community
groups. Earthlink.com.au has donated this website

community and if it arouses passion for them, they are welcome to join our team.
