How is using AI going to affect your learning community.
So you want to implement chatbots? Make data-driven decisions about your digital priorities? Use artificial intelligence to serve members better?
The answers to your questions lie in your content – that is, the way you create and publish information about your organization’s work.
Reinvent your content, and you’ll reinvent your organization.
Consider how – and why – your organization creates its content
This session covered the triggers for effective content decision-making, maturity along a content/digital strategy spectrum, and the roadmap to greater maturity and greater effectiveness.
Workshp presented at the Research Support Community Day 2018 by Ashley Sutherland, Arts Faculty Librarian, Kylie Tran, Senior Client Services Librarian, and Kathryn Lindsay Senior Librarian Bibliographic Software, University of Melbourne.
The University of Melbourne Library recently ran a series of workshops to raise awareness of online security, privacy and identity. They developed a suite of resources to help research students check their online privacy settings, identify if their data has been breached, and provide some tips for keeping their online presence “clean”. In a networked world, managing your personal online presence is a vital digital literacy skill. This workshop offered advice on how to run your own ‘Digital Spring Clean’ session and take you through some of the practical ways you can help researchers evaluate their social media settings, secure their online accounts and manage their online identity.

This presentation traces the design and implementation of an online first-year composition course at a Research I institution during the 2017-18 academic year. The speaker will share lessons learned from designing and teaching the course, as well as training and mentoring graduate instructors to teach online for the first time (Bourelle, 2016). Topics covered will include positioning a digital rhetorics themed distance learning course within a STEM-based university, teaching multimodal assignments in an online course, and integrating information design concepts such as user-centeredness (Blythe, 2001) and wicked problems (Rittel & Webber, 1973) into online first-year writing curricula.

Educating Problem-Solvers for Our Emerging Digital EcosystemRebecca Davis
What skills, abilities, and habits of mind do today’s graduates need to navigate and solve complex problems in a constantly changing, globally-connected world? How can we integrate digital skills in support of critical thinking and inquiry across the curriculum? The future of higher education depends upon a model of digitally-informed learning that is not merely content delivery online but rather is education reshaped in the same ways that digital technologies have already fundamentally changed our culture. This talk will present a vision for building an integrated curriculum that fosters self-directed, digitally-augmented problem-solving from introductory to capstone level courses and prepares graduates to partner with technology to solve problems.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.
