  • 4. Focus is often on actions But what are the underlying causes?

  • 7. Knowledge Gaps Didn’t have all the information

  • 13. Reflect Did these 3 x factors play a role in your 2017 performance? GREED FEAR IGNORANCE
  • 14. What can we do to reduce the impact of these factors in our decision making?
  • 15. Greed • “If it’s too good to be true… it is!” e.g. Nigerian Uncle • Look to your Purpose and Values – does this align with them? • Look deep in yourself – what is driving this behaviour? External validation? Insecurity? • Question your motivation – why is this important to me? • Are you “addicted”? • Listen to other opinions that may break your paradigms
  • 17. Ignorance • Where do you sit in the cycle on this action? • Do your research! • Ask the hard questions – Why? What? How? • Get external input • Evaluate thoroughly • Be wary of “group think” and “running with the pack”

Fear • 5 Why’s Try and isolate your fear and ask yourself the following questions: • What are the potential outcomes of this action? • What is likelihood of this happening? • How would I know if things were going awry? Measure? • Look back at your track record – reflect and plan • Remember: Fear and Greed are closely linked

Leadership comes from balance • Clearly understand your motivations and drivers • Ensure you are comfortable with yourself – aligned purpose, values and actions • Take the time to reflect and plan – don’t rush your decisions • Get some external input to balance your views – colleagues, mentors, coaches
