The Pilgrims left England and traveled to America on the Mayflower. They built houses and planted seeds with the help of the Native Americans. The Native Americans taught the Pilgrims how to farm corn and hunt local animals. In the fall, after their first successful corn harvest, the Pilgrims had a celebration feast to give thanks which became known as the First Thanksgiving. Now, Thanksgiving is celebrated as a national holiday in the US on the fourth Thursday of November and in Canada on the second Monday of October.
