The pilgrims were English settlers who traveled to America on the Mayflower to escape their country. After a difficult journey, they landed at Plymouth Rock where they struggled through their first winter as their crops failed. However, two Native Americans named Samoset and Squanto helped the pilgrims learn to hunt, fish, and grow corn. As a result, the pilgrims had a very successful harvest, which they celebrated with a huge feast and invited the Native Americans who helped them. This feast became the first Thanksgiving.
