A group of Europeans arrived in America in November 1620 and many died during the first winter. The local Wampanoag Indians taught the settlers how to plant corn and catch fish. As a result, the settlers had enough food collected by the following autumn to survive the winter. The Europeans invited the native Americans to a three-day feast as a thank you.
