On the third Monday of October each year, the city of Ica, Peru celebrates a religious festival honoring their patron saint, the Master of Luren de Ica. This festival has been celebrated for over 400 years since 1570. In the 16th century, an Englishman bought a crucified Christ sculpture from Michelangelo and took it to London, but after he died it was left in the chapel of his family's royal estate. The city also celebrates a holiday each July honoring the Virgin Mary, where her image is paraded through the streets and honored with music, food, and celebration.
