Each year Americans celebrate Thanksgiving on the fourth Thursday of November, spending time with family and following traditions like sharing meals of turkey and pie. Families come together to prepare traditional Thanksgiving foods, which often includes the entire family helping to cook. The President also participates in a tradition of pardoning a turkey to spare it from being slaughtered. Many people use the holiday as a chance to help those less fortunate through volunteering or donating to shelters.
