Malaysia, Burma and Cambodia. Thailand is about 15 times smaller
than Australia and it covers about 513 120 km2.

the ground. It is 1.5km
long.

It is Bangkok’s most famous
landmark. It was the Thai
king’s home for 150 years.
Ayutthaya Old City was the
city’s former capital from
1350-1767. It is a center of

Wat Rong Khun also known as
the white temple was used as
an art gallery, meditation
rooms and many more
important purposes.
Climate
The weather in Thailand is hot and humid. The highest average rainfall in Thailand from 1991-2015
was in August. It was 26.4mm deep. There higher rainfall seasons are from May to September.
Natural Disasters and Human Impact on the Environment
Tropical Storm Ira caused
heavy rains. It damaged
2,500 square miles of
farm land.
In Thailand are a lot of
flood and a recent one
was in 2011. There were
815 deaths and about
21000km 2 of farmland
damaged.
The increased economy has
caused some environmental
issues. Some examples are
pollution, deforestation and
waste issues.
National Fauna, Flora and Colours
The national fauna of Thailand is the Thai elephant. The national flora of
Thailand is the flower of Ratchaphruek also known as the golden shower
tree. The national colours of Thailand are the same as the the flag ( red,
white and blue ).
Festival and Celebrations
Songkran – Songkran is their
traditional New Year that is
celebrated from 13th to 15th of
April. It is to wash their sins
away, blessing friends with
water.
Rocket festival – It is to
fire rockets in the sky to
remind the sky god to give
them promised rain at the
start of rice growing
season.
Loi Krathong – It is a
festival of light to thank
the goddess of the water
at the end of harvest. It
is celebrated in the full
moon in Thai’s 12th
month.
Cultural Dress
Tradition Thai costumes are now only worn on special
occasions. Here are some elements in Thai Costumes:
• Pha nung - a long rectangular cloth worn around
lower body like a skirt.
• Sin - a tube skirt that is wrapped around the waist.
• Sabai - a shawl like piece of clothing that is worn by
men and women.
• Chong Kraben – a cloth that wraps around the lower
body that resembles pants.
Traditional Music
Here are some genres of traditional music played in Thailand:
• Piphat - A classical music of Thailand played with wind and percussion
instruments.
• Khrueang Sai – A classical music of Thailand played mostly with string
instruments.
• Mahori - A type of music typically played by women using gongs, xylophones
and strings
