Over 75% of Thailand was submerged underwater due to heavy rains that caused flooding. More than 315 people had died, thousands were homeless, and about 90,000 flood victims suffered from stress or required therapy. People had to move around using boats, elephants, or makeshift floats like tires or styrofoam since the flood waters were up to adults' chins or hips. Leptospirosis, a disease caused by bacteria in contaminated flood waters, was also a concern.
