Creating Tessellations Step 1: Place a dot on each corner of the paper and label the top, bottom, left, and right. Step 2: Draw a line from the left lower dot to the right lower dot to create a shape. Step 3: Cut along the drawn line, slide the paper upwards without flipping it, and tape the cut seam together with no gaps showing to create a tessellation.

4. Step 3: draw a shape
• Use pencil
• Draw a line, a shape, from the LEFT lower dot to the right lower dot.
• Raise pencil when you are done!

5. Step 4: cut along line
• Use scissors
• Cut along the line carefully.
• Raise pencil when you are done!

6. Step 5: Tape to top: SLIDE
• Slide upwards. Do NOT flip the paper…. Line up the dots
• Tape together (no gap showing)
• If you are done, help a neighbor!

7. Step 6: Trace shape
• Hold shape down with one hand
• Trace around outside with the other hand….
• Tile it, just like a puzzle, and keep tracing. FILL paper with tracing of
shape before you color anything in.
