Terrassa was originally called Egara and was founded by the Romans. During the Middle Ages, the town grew around the Plaça Major square. In the 19th century, Terrassa experienced strong industrial growth centered around its textile industry, and many modernist buildings from this period still remain today. Some important landmarks in Terrassa include the Plaça Vella square, Castell Cartoixa castle, and Masia Freixa modernist building.
