Catalunya is an autonomous community in northeastern Spain with Barcelona as its capital city. The main languages spoken are Catalan and Spanish. It has a population of around 7.5 million inhabitants and its national day is September 11th. Some of the most important cities besides Barcelona are Lleida, Tarragona, and Girona. Notable geographic areas include the Pyrenees Mountains, Costa Brava coastline, Ebre delta, Montserrat mountain, and Balearic Islands. Traditional foods include bread with tomato and butifarra sausage. Popular dances are sardanes and stick dancing, and castellers are performed at village festivals. The catalan donkey and Saint George are important cultural symbols.
