3. INTRODUCTION
WHAT IS TERATOGEN?
• An agent that provide a permanent alteration of structure in
organism exposed in embryonic cells.
TERATOGENESIS:
• Process by which congential malformation are
produced in embryo.
5. MUTATED GENE
• Contain physical factors like hyperthermia .
• Mutation in the mutagen and make embryo invalid.
PHYSICAL FACTORS
1. Extreme temperature
2. X rays
• Cause abnormalities by altering the structure of the DNA
• Klinefelter’s syndrome , Turner’s syndrome are
congential disease.
6. CHEMICAL FACTORS
• Chemicals that are not produced by body are Xenobiotics.
• It includes the substances of two nature:
1. Man–made Xenobiotics: all medicine , pesticides , chemicals
are come under this category.
2. Natural Xenobiotics: Neratrum californium grows in rocky
mountains, preganent sheep eats the nervous system of its
fetus is damaged.
7. DRUGS AS TERATOGEN
• Streptomycin: Loss of hearing , damage to cochlear nerve.
• Tetracycline: Hypoplasia, Staining of bones
• Valporate : Neural Type Defect (NTD)
• Di-ethylstibestrol: uterine and cervical abnormalities.
8. PARASITIC MICROBES
• There are 10 such parasitism are known which bring embryo deformity.
RUBELLA[German Measles]:
• It causes deafness in the baby, or can redemption
child’s growth.
CYTOMEGALOVIRUS OR C.M.V
• Pathogenic (Pathogen) which produce cytomgelic inclusion.
• It can cause like micropthalmia, cerebral disease occur.
9. SUMMARY
• All embryos in nature do not develop in a normal period and in
normal way.
• This fetus die prematurely some kind of abnormality arise in
them.
• Factor that affect environment of fetus and bring abnormalities
in it are called deforming factors.
• This period is called critical period or window.
