How do we make the Present Simple Tense?

There are three important exceptions:

     1. For positive sentences, we do not normally use the auxiliary.

     2. For the 3rd person singular (he, she, it), we add s to the main
verb or es to the auxiliary.

     3. For the verb to be, we do not use an auxiliary, even for
     questions and negatives.

                                auxiliary
 subject + + main verb
                                verb
  he/she/it
                                 Do/does base
 i/you/They
When to use the Present Simple Tense?

We use the present simple tense when:

•the action is general
•the action happens all the time, or habitually, in the
past, present and future
•the action is not only happening now
•the statement is always true
Present Tense
A verb tense that expresses action in the present time,
 habitual actions, or general truths.

                        Usage
1. The present simple expresses a fact which is always
true ,or true for a long time.

Example:
                He Comes from school.
                   I like ice cream.

2. It also expresses a habit.

Example:
                 He works all weekdays.
She goes to work by bus.
Forms of Present tense

A. Ordinary – expresses habitual action, a general
     truth or a place.

I talk (used mainly when the meaning is habitual).

B. Emphatic – also known as the “do” form
which gives emphasis to the action.

I do talk (used either for emphasis, for example,
yes, I do talk a lot; also to form questions and
     negatives).

C. Present continuous (progressive) – indicates an
action continuing up to the present time.
       I am talking (meaning now).
Past tense

We use the Past Simple to talk about actions that happened
at a specific time in the past.
