The document discusses upcoming trends in eco-friendly packaging:
1) Five major trends will change the packaging world, including increased e-commerce and the focus on packaging requirements and delivery innovations, more demand for personalized and convenient packaging, further margin compression for manufacturers, and increased sustainability requirements throughout the supply chain.
2) Plastic packaging can provide sustainability benefits by reducing food waste and being resource efficient, but current models contribute to pollution from fishing nets and microfibers.
3) Various certification standards have emerged around the world to promote more sustainable packaging options like eco-labels in Indonesia, Singapore, Europe, and Malaysia.

For the Packaging Institute at the University of Hasselt, Belgium, we presented this slideshare. It explains how a structured approach to packaging innovation can help in unfuzzying the fuzzy front-end.
When it comes to innovations in packaging, the future is now! While the primary purpose of packaging is to sell, protect and inform the customer about the product, its purpose has taken on a greater role with the inclusion of new and innovative approaches. Incremental improvements in color management is allowing for consistency, regardless of the printing process. The addition of special effects to the packaging, such as metallic and texture, further differentiate the product and enhance sales. But the real game changer is advent “smart packaging”—which allows the customer to directly interact with the product, or provide crucial information regarding the condition of the product, both at the point of purchase and importantly after they have left the store or the product has been delivered. Intelligent packaging is here to stay and provide for the long term future of packaging.

PHP Frameworks: I want to break free (IPC Berlin 2024)Ralf Eggert
In this presentation, we examine the challenges and limitations of relying too heavily on PHP frameworks in web development. We discuss the history of PHP and its frameworks to understand how this dependence has evolved. The focus will be on providing concrete tips and strategies to reduce reliance on these frameworks, based on real-world examples and practical considerations. The goal is to equip developers with the skills and knowledge to create more flexible and future-proof web applications. We'll explore the importance of maintaining autonomy in a rapidly changing tech landscape and how to make informed decisions in PHP development.
This talk is aimed at encouraging a more independent approach to using PHP frameworks, moving towards a more flexible and future-proof approach to PHP development.

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

14. 5 Mega “trends” van a cambiar el mundo de
los empaques:
■ E-commerce para todo: Enfoque en Intense focus on increased packaging requirements,
including for new products, along with last-mile delivery innovations
■ Cambios en los Habitos del Consumidos. Demand for much more personalization,
convenience, health, and affordability, driving SKU proliferation to new heights
■ Compresion de Margen de Brand Owners. Further margin compression for fast-moving
consumer goods (FMCG) manufacturers and retailers, with pressure passed back up the
line to converters,1 intensifying the threat of insolvency
■ Sustainability requirements increasing at every step of the value chain. With rising activist
scrutiny
■ Digitization/Internet ofThings (IoT). Both to drive down costs and, increasingly
throughout the decade, gain a competitive edge with consumers; for example, by
generating greater customer value and service through technology integration in
packaging.

■ “In the eyes of sustainability expert and Director of Emagine
Packaging, Richard Coles, plastic packaging can deliver important
sustainability benefits in terms of saving food waste by extending
shelf-life, being resource efficient and enhancing product
functionality. Indeed, a recently published US study identified
plastics as the most environmentally-friendly packaging material
in terms of energy use, water consumption, solid waste,
greenhouse gas emissions, ozone depletion, eutrophication and
acidification.”

20. Problemas del modelo actual
■ “Importantly, it should be noted that around 90
percent of plastics marine pollution arises from just 10
river basins inAfrica andAsia with about 50 percent
reportedly due to fishing nets. In addition, there is
pollution due to microfiber plastics originating from
rinse-water used to wash synthetic textiles and
microbeads used in cosmetics, face scrubs, bodywash
and toothpaste," Coles adds.
