Integration Report

Learning Objective
                      Standard 3
     Students will understand simple geometry and
 measurement concepts as well as collect, represent, and
             draw conclusions from data.

                      Objective 2
  Identify measurable attributes of objects and units of
measurement, and use appropriate techniques and tools to
               determine measurements.

                         Indicator C
 Identify the value of a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and
dollar, and determine the value of a set of the same coins
that total 25¢ or less (e.g., a set of 5 nickels equals 25¢).
Money Mastery
                      Jeopardy

 My class had spent a few weeks
  reviewing money during math.
 They learned about the value of
  coins and how to add pennies,
nickels, dimes, and quarters. For
my lesson, I wanted to find a way
to assess what they all knew and
    understood about money.
I found the best way
   to do this was to
  create a jeopardy
game. It was fun and
  interactive for the
children, and it gave
 the teacher a good
   idea of who was
  understanding the
  material and who
 needed more help.
I found a website
online that helps to
create jeopardy
games. It can be
found at:
jeopardylabs.com.
This website
creates a jeopardy
template. Then you
go in and
put in the questions, answers, and their values. This
website then creates the jeopardy game for you, and
gives you a new website which contains only your game.
The one that I made can be found at:
jeopardylabs.com/play/money-mastery
The jeopardy game
   was open on the
 computer, which we
then projected onto a
 screen so the whole
  class could see it
      very well.
The students were split
into two teams. They each
had their own white board
 on which to answer each
  question. The team who
 picked the question could
 answer first. If they got it
  wrong, the second team
   can steal their points.
Examples of questions asked…
How many cents is 2 Nickels?
                                          Mr. Littlefield finds 8 cents on the
                                          ground. What coins could he have
                                                         found?
  When Mr. Bird bought ice cream, the
  cashier gave him back 2 dimes and 1
  nickel. How many cents does Mr. Bird
               have now?
                          If Jane has 2 nickels and her mom gives
                          her 1 more nickel, how many cents does
                                          she have?


  What is the color of a penny?

                                  Is it lucky to find a coin with your birth
                                                   year on it?
What Went Well…
                             Using the white

Four Principles of Effective
           Technology Integration
1. Student Use of Technology:
Effective technology integration typically involves
students (as opposed to just the teacher) in actively
using the technology.
                             The students were actively involved by
                             answering the questions presented on
                                    their own white boards.
2. Technology Use is Essential:
Effective technology integration is
essential not peripheral to the learning
activity.
                               The jeopardy game created using
                         technology was the whole lesson. Without
                          it, we would not have been able to do the
                                           lesson.
3. Focus on Learning Task:
Effective technology integration
focuses on the learning task and not
the technology.
                       Everything was focused on the learning of
                        counting money and the value of coins. It
                         was all focused on the objective of the
                             lesson and not the technology.
4. Added Value:
Effective technology integration
facilitates learning activities
that would be more difficult or
impossible without the technology.
                           This activity would have been more
                        difficult without the technology we used
                       because it helped to display the questions
                       for the whole class, and it made creating a
                           jeopardy game much easier then by
                                   making one by hand.

  • 2. Learning Objective Standard 3 Students will understand simple geometry and measurement concepts as well as collect, represent, and draw conclusions from data. Objective 2 Identify measurable attributes of objects and units of measurement, and use appropriate techniques and tools to determine measurements. Indicator C Identify the value of a penny, nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar, and determine the value of a set of the same coins that total 25¢ or less (e.g., a set of 5 nickels equals 25¢).
  • 3. Money Mastery Jeopardy My class had spent a few weeks reviewing money during math. They learned about the value of coins and how to add pennies, nickels, dimes, and quarters. For my lesson, I wanted to find a way to assess what they all knew and understood about money.
  • 4. I found the best way to do this was to create a jeopardy game. It was fun and interactive for the children, and it gave the teacher a good idea of who was understanding the material and who needed more help.
  • 5. I found a website online that helps to create jeopardy games. It can be found at: jeopardylabs.com. This website creates a jeopardy template. Then you go in and put in the questions, answers, and their values. This website then creates the jeopardy game for you, and gives you a new website which contains only your game.   • 6. The jeopardy game was open on the computer, which we then projected onto a screen so the whole class could see it very well.
  • 7. The students were split into two teams. They each had their own white board on which to answer each question. The team who picked the question could answer first. If they got it wrong, the second team can steal their points.
  • 8. Examples of questions asked… How many cents is 2 Nickels? Mr. Littlefield finds 8 cents on the ground. What coins could he have found? When Mr. Bird bought ice cream, the cashier gave him back 2 dimes and 1 nickel. How many cents does Mr. Bird have now? If Jane has 2 nickels and her mom gives her 1 more nickel, how many cents does she have? What is the color of a penny? Is it lucky to find a coin with your birth year on it?

  • 11. Four Principles of Effective Technology Integration 1. Student Use of Technology: Effective technology integration typically involves students (as opposed to just the teacher) in actively using the technology. The students were actively involved by answering the questions presented on their own white boards. 2. Technology Use is Essential: Effective technology integration is essential not peripheral to the learning activity. The jeopardy game created using technology was the whole lesson. Without it, we would not have been able to do the lesson.
  • 12. 3. Focus on Learning Task: Effective technology integration focuses on the learning task and not the technology. Everything was focused on the learning of counting money and the value of coins. It was all focused on the objective of the lesson and not the technology. 4. Added Value: Effective technology integration facilitates learning activities that would be more difficult or impossible without the technology. This activity would have been more difficult without the technology we used because it helped to display the questions for the whole class, and it made creating a jeopardy game much easier then by making one by hand.
