2. Money Master Jeopardy!
• A review lesson of the unit the class had just
finished on money, specifically coins.
• Utah State Core:
First grade, Mathematics, Standard 3,
objective 2: Identify the value of a penny,
nickel, dime, quarter, and dollar, and
determine the value of a set of the same
coins that total 25¢ or less (e.g., a set of 5
nickels equals 25¢).
3. Jeopardy!
I created a jeopardy game
using an online
template that reviewed
the concepts about
coins that they had
been working on for the
past three weeks.
4. Jeopardy!
• We developed 25
questions for the
students.
• There were many
different types of
questions (story
problems, true/false,
etc)
5. Jeopardy!
As you can see in the
picture, the class was
divided into four groups
After I read the question,
the first team to raise
their hand and follow all
behavioral procedures
would work together as
a table to answer the
question
6. Jeopardy!
• After every question,
we would quickly
review as a class the
concept
• “That’s right, table 3!
We know that nickels
are worth five cents and
that dimes are worth
ten, so adding those
together makes fifteen
cents!”
7. What went well Not quite as well
• Working in groups worked • The win/lose structure
very well—children were made for some
really thinking as they disappointed students, even
reviewed together to make though all the scores were
sure they had the correct relatively close
answer.
