ReactJS revolucionó la creación de componentes en las aplicaciones web incluyendo programación funcional y virtual DOM. De esta forma, haciendo componentes de componentes, llega un momento en que ReactJS se apodera de toda la vista.
En ese momento, ReactJS necesita que le aporten todo aquello donde no llega: comunicación entre componentes, routing, comunicación con backend, gestión del estado de la aplicación, etc.
Aquí aparece Redux. Son sólo 99 líneas de código y un buen puñado de ideas brillantes, promoviendo un ecosistema de librerías.
Explicaremos cuáles son esos principios fundamentales y cómo bien entendidos nos llevan a simplificar al extremo el código.

Many of these tools do not offer good ways of communicating animations or different states of the various components and in the end, there still has to be a translation into something that is functional.
This talk aims to change that. We will be looking at Storybook as a tool that facilitates developers and designers working hand-in-hand to codify designs in React components. We will also cover some strategies of React component building that enabled taking advantage of tools like Storybook.

Apache Spark is one of the most popular distributed systems, and it has built in libraries for both machine learning and streaming. This talk will cover Spark's two streaming libraries, look at the future, and how to make streaming ML work today (for both serving and prediction). If you aren't familiar with Spark, that's ok! We'll spend the first ~5 minutes covering just enough to get through the rest of the talk, and for those of you already familiar you can spend those ~5 minutes downloading the sample code :)

Holden is a transgender Canadian open source developer advocate @ Google with a focus on Apache Spark, BEAM, and related "big data" tools. She is the co-author of Learning Spark, High Performance Spark, and another Spark book that's a bit more out of date. She is a committer on the Apache Spark, SystemML, and Mahout projects. She was tricked into the world of big data while trying to improve search and recommendation systems and has long since forgotten her original goal.

Famo.us: From Zero to UI
famo.us is a JavaScript framework for building user interfaces using a reactive programming model. It provides building blocks like surfaces, contexts and engines to construct animatable UI elements in a render tree. Key concepts include moveable surfaces that can be transformed, laid out and animated. Custom layouts and views can be created by extending base classes and composing surfaces together in a render tree managed by the engine.
Structured streaming for machine learning
Structured streaming allows building machine learning models on streaming data. It extends the Dataset and DataFrame APIs to streams. Key points:
- Structured streaming represents continuous tables and uses micro-batch processing.
- Streaming aggregations maintain partial aggregates across batches using state management. This allows incremental updates to models.
- Current approaches train models by collecting updates from a sink. Future work aims to directly use streaming aggregators for online learning.
- Streaming machine learning pipelines require estimators that produce updatable transformers, unlike static transformers in batch pipelines.

Going Reactive with Relational Databases
Relational Databases have been a blocker for systems incorporating a fully reactive stack since the inception of the Reactive Streams specification.
The new Reactive Relational Database Connectivity (R2DBC) can be considered as a game-changer towards achieving efficiency and resiliency on persistence level.
Being one of the early adopters, incorporating R2DBC on an ETL that is processing 5 billion flight tickets per year, I will compare it with the existing alternatives in the same space.
We will go through the existing APIs, the current limitations, the new Spring 5.2 reactive transactions, and some of the most useful constructs and patterns that emerge from using R2DBC.
Declarative UIs with Jetpack Compose
Jetpack Compose is Google's new declarative UI toolkit for Android that aims to simplify building user interfaces. It uses composable functions to build up UI elements in a declarative way. Composables can update reactively in response to changes in state data models. This allows building UIs as simple as printing lines of code. Compose principles include treating UI as functions, using composable building blocks, and implementing a top-down data flow from state models to views through composables. The speaker demonstrates a simple counter app built with Compose.
