HoloLens is being used by NASA for astronaut training and research, and by Volvo for augmented reality showrooms. Augmented reality bridges the digital and physical worlds and is important for business and industry.

For over 35 years, we have been content with using a keyboard and monitor to interact with computers. The mouse, touch screen and other input devices have transformed how to communicate with computers, but screens of all sizes – from 1” to 80” – have all always been the de facto method to perceive the primary output from our microcomputers and devices. Until now. The Oculus Rift aims to be the first mainstream consumer device for Virtual Reality (VR), while Microsoft’s HoloLens merges the real world with the virtual via holograms to create advanced mixed reality (MR) scenarios (also known as augmented reality, or AR).
This session is your introduction to building AR & MR applications and games using C#, Visual Studio and Unity. We’ll review many of the hardware options, their respective SDKs and how to design real-world scenarios for both the consumer space and the enterprise. We’ll also look at 3D development environments like Unity to bring to life complex scenarios. Mixed and Virtual Reality projects are no longer a dream. The technology is here. The hardware is here. CAKE: Sharing Slices of Confidential Data on Blockchain
Presented at the CAiSE 2024 Forum, Intelligent Information Systems, June 6th, Limassol, Cyprus.
Synopsis: Cooperative information systems typically involve various entities in a collaborative process within a distributed environment. Blockchain technology offers a mechanism for automating such processes, even when only partial trust exists among participants. The data stored on the blockchain is replicated across all nodes in the network, ensuring accessibility to all participants. While this aspect facilitates traceability, integrity, and persistence, it poses challenges for adopting public blockchains in enterprise settings due to confidentiality issues. In this paper, we present a software tool named Control Access via Key Encryption (CAKE), designed to ensure data confidentiality in scenarios involving public blockchains. After outlining its core components and functionalities, we showcase the application of CAKE in the context of a real-world cyber-security project within the logistics domain.

- HoloLens is an augmented reality headset- doesn’t immerse user in a virtual world, VR. The device projects images that you can interact with into your physical world. Works on the Windows 10 framework, so all Windows universal apps can be made to work as holograms.
- Brian Blau, research director of consumer technology and markets: “Google was challenged to appeal to a mass consumer market that perceived its eyewear as high-end wearable technology lacking practical everyday applicability. Its camera, which was considered intrusive, did not help its image. Although Glass's social stigma will fade with time, people aren't yet ready to use such advanced technology for day-to-day tasks.” “"Did Microsoft look at the experience that Google had, and try to avoid that? Certainly," Blau notes, but right now the HoloLens is miles ahead of Glass. Will it stay ahead of the wearables game? Only time will tell.”

Once the app is created, Microsoft plans to open source the code so developers can build from it. Microsoft has also announced a HoloLens academic research grant. Recipients will get two Microsoft HoloLens devices and $100,000 towards funding.
- As of last month NASA has started using HoloLense to help astronauts carry out assignments on the ISS. Goal of enabling scientists to virtually work on Mars with HoloLens. (Microsoft and NASA teamed up last January with this cause in mind) He also noted how if he's wearing HoloLens, people on Earth can see what he sees and write in his field of vision.
