Computing is Not a Rock Band: Student Understanding of the Computing DisciplinesRandy Connolly
This presentation reports the initial findings of a multi-year study that is surveying major and non-major students’ understanding of the different computing disciplines. This study is based on work originally conducted by Courte and Bishop-Clark from 2009, but which uses a broadened study instrument that provided additional forms of analysis. Data was collected from 199 students from a single institution who were computer science, information systems/information technology and non-major students taking a variety of introductory computing courses. Results show that undergraduate computing students are more likely to rate tasks as being better fits to computer disciplines than are their non-major (NM) peers. Uncertainty among respondents did play a large role in the results and is discussed alongside implications for teaching and further research.
Learning Objective: Investigate test-taking skills to achieve higher assessment scores
Description: Being prepared for tests is not an easy process. Even if you are prepared, tests can still make you feel anxious. Why is being a good test taker so important in college? In colleges and universities, much of a student’s grades are based on quiz and test performance. Doing well on these tests is typically a major indicator of your subject matter knowledge and a good indicator of how you would perform in the workplace. Having good test scores will jumpstart your career. In this seminar, we will address test-taking and test preparation tips and strategies for college-level tests. Applying helpful test-taking and test preparation skills addressed in this seminar, such as writing down everything you remember, reading the directions, browsing the test questions, putting together a plan, and making an educated guess, will teach you how to prepare for and perform well on any test so that you feel confident that you’re bringing your testing A game.
At the end of this seminar, participants will be able to:
1. Review the factors that limit achieving higher college assessment scores.
2. Identify practices for dealing with test anxiety.
3. Measure the validity of current test-taking methods.
4. Generate more efficient techniques for improving assessment scores.

The U.A.E passed a mandate that said the country needs to rank amongst the top 20 of PISA and top 15 in TIMSS by 2021. In 2012, U.A.E had ranked 44th. The Mindspark Team put together this presentation to show how learning with understanding, through Mindspark, is the best way for schools to prepare for PISA and TIMSS.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.
Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Applying Functions
A special prewritten formula that provides a shortcut for
commonly used calculations
Each function has a syntax
Syntax specifies order of typing the parts, where to put
commas, punctuation, etc.
Determines order of arguments or values that Excel must use in
the calculation
=A1+A2+A3+A4+A5 can be easier written as =SUM(A1:A5)
=(A1+A2)/2 can be easier written as =AVERAGE(A1:A2)
=MIN(A1:A3)
=MAX(A1:A3)

Teacher’s favorite functions
SUM (sums a range of cells)
AVERAGE (average of a range of cells)
TODAY (shows the date/time as of now)
MIN (returns the minimum value in a range of cells)
MAX (returns the maximum value in a range of cells)
Count ( Count Total No. of Row)
