What makes a good team?
What makes a good team player?
As the wise man once said and I quote;
‘United we stand, and, divided we fall’
This statement is very true ......and it tells us about the importance of team work in our
lives.
Teams are groups of people that share a common purpose, to which they are all committed, and
have the authority to set goals, solve problems and make decisions.Without these common traits
they are not a 'team' - they are a group of people who happen to work together in the same
environment - a work group.
Some of the benefits of ‘effective’ teamwork are to the organization, to the team and to the
individuals within the team. This includes their capacity not only to work within their own team
but also to have good outer team relationships. Working in such an environment helps build
high staff qualities and improved work performance. Teamwork has a greater impact towards
improved productivity, quality improvement, innovation and creativity, improved motivation and
commitment. Belonging to a team means having co-operation,accepting
responsibilities, supporting each other, having a common goal, mutual support and understanding
own and other team members roles and responsibilities.
Anybody and everybody who is involved in accomplishing a task given to the team can said to
be a team player. Teams need strong team players to perform well. Nowadays people look for
players who demonstrate responsibility, communicate actively, listen actively, share their vision
with the team, find solution to problems rather than finding problems and work in a supportive
and respectful manner.
We have seen many such examples of team players while growing up. In 2011 India won the
ICC World Cup against Sri Lanka by working as a team, all of the players were committed to
win the ICC Finals against Sri Lanka and working as a team led them to the road to victory.
Also, in various movies like Chaka-De-India the INDIAN women hockey team won the match
by working as a team. In 2013, the film Chennai Express was the first Indian movie to reach
worth the tickets of 300 crores. Also in the year 2009 the movie 3 idiots came to be a hit in the
Indian Cinema. All these movies were an example of team work where each actor, director, artist
played the role of a team player. If even one of the member did not do his/her role perfectly, the
movies could never be a hit. On the television a program called ‘Tarrak Mehta ka Ooltah
Chashmah” on SAB TV is a hit and gets lakhs of viewership each day which shows us how the
director, producer actors cameraman and hundreds of other people have worked together in a
team to make a program such a great hit.
We as students of our school also are taught to work in a team. In our research based projects we
have to work together as a team and present a project in front of the judge. in the winter carnival
every year, we have to put up stalls and earn money and give it to the school for development.
All these tasks cannot be accomplished without all the students together working in a team and
be good team players, have the same milestone and be committed and be supportive. We have to
be committed and have the feeling of belongingness towards our school.
It’s only when people work together comes a remarkable result.Hence I would like to
conclude by saying:-

Talent wins games, but teamwork and intelligence win
championships.
