Metadata for Open Land Use
datasets
Dmitri Kožuch Orleans/OGC INSPIRE Hackathon
• To create metadata that will comply to ISO/TS 19139 standard
• Insert metadata to MICKA metadata catalogue, running at:
https://micka.lesprojekt.cz/
• Create a separate web page for dataset of the each
administrative unit in EU of (NUTS_0 till LAU_2)
Aims of the team
Metadata for Open Land Use datasets
• Open Land Use database (structured by EU municipalities)
• Database of EU administrative units (from NUTS_0 – countries -
to LAU_2 – municipalities)
Input data
Metadata for Open Land Use datasets
• There was a need to add some additional attributes to the table
with administrative units such as parent unit id, area proportion
relative to the parent unit. This was done in order to prevent
geometric recalculation of certain attributes (landuse
composition, sources used) for the units larger than
municipality.

Data processing
Metadata for Open Land Use datasets
• MICKA metadata catalogue
• PostgreSQL database server
• Python
Tools used
Metadata for Open Land Use datasets
• Beforehand create template that with filled parameters will generate valid
ISO/TS 19139 metadata in form of XML document
• Select some administrative unit for which the metadata records are to be
generated
• In case the unit is municipality generate metadata by the pre-prepared
template and insert it into MICKA by CSW request
• If the level is larger then municipal - find all the municipalities that constitute
the unit and generate metadata for them and after that go up the hierarchy of
the units and generate metadata for higher and higher units step by step
(because in some cases as it was mentioned before in some cases aggregation
of the attributes that just available at municipal level is needed

Result
Metadata for Open Land Use datasets
• Create html template for dynamic page generation of the dataset html
page (Now dataset id is url link such as
http://sdi4apps.eu/open_land_use/unit/cz020a539350 , which directs to
nowhere. Could be something similar to how it is in OpenStreetMap for
instance: https://www.openstreetmap.org/relation/442236 . Additionally
could be included the link to the data download.
• Import records into NextGeoss CKAN
To finish
Metadata for Open Land Use datasets
• The whole EU region coverage
• Use of attribute aggregations for the higher hierarchical units
• Full compliance to the to ISO/TS 19139 standard
• IDs of datasets are URL links
• Sources in a record lineage are links to the metadata of the data sources
from which dataset was derived
