INTRODUCTION
 Today’s homes require sophistication control in
its different gadgets which are basically electronic
appliances.
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 2
PROBLEM STATEMENT
 Difficulties in monitoring and control of
home appliances remotely.
 Lack of access to know the status of the
home appliances.
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 3
OBJECTIVES, main
The main objective of this project
 Remotely access and control electrical appliances
such as lightings, fans e.t.c. using android based
Smartphone's such as Galaxy phones ,Htc,
Techno,Sony,Lenovo and others which uses
Android OS.
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 4
OBJECTIVES, specific
Specific objectives includes the following;
 Design and implementation of an android
application.
 Design and implementation of arduino Ethernet
server application software
 Design and implementation of an independent
power supply system
 Design and implementation of the switching
circuits for the electrical appliances
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 5
METHODOLOGY
 Preliminary study
Main modules of the proposed system;
Micro-web server, hardware interface modules
and software package(Android app).
 IP connectivity.
 RESTful web services
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 6
PROPOSED SYSTEMARCHITECTURE
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 7
PROPOSED SYSTEMARCHITECTURE
 To successfully connect to the Home server,
the user has to configure the IP address and
the Port number of the micro Web-server in
the app.
 Any Android based Smart phone with built in
support for Wi-Fi can be used to access and
control the devices at home. When a Wi-Fi
connection is not available, mobile cellular
networks such as 3G or 4G can be used to
access the system.
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 8
WORK DONE SO FAR
 Literature review.
 Learning android programming, arduino
Ethernet server programming and circuit
designs
 Consulting supervisor on how to get static Ip
address that can be used with the micro web
server in the home gateway.
Urassa Richard/C.Mwase 9
WORK TO BE DONE
 Continuing Learning android and micro-controller
programming.
 Designing and implementation of the android
application
 Designing and implementation of the switching
circuit and independent power supply
 Designing and implementation of the micro-web
server software
 Ordering of the hardware modules of the system.
 Testing functionalities of the android application
with the remote server.
