Rastafarianism began in Jamaica in the 1930s after Ras Tafari was crowned Emperor Haile Selassie I of Ethiopia. Rastafarians believe in the Judeo-Christian God called Jah and follow the dietary law of Ital. They use marijuana in their main rituals called Reasonings and Nyabingi. Symbols of Rastafarianism include dreadlocks, the colors red, gold and green, and ideals of naturalness and simplicity. Rastafarians adhere to a diet of natural and unprocessed foods in accordance with Old Testament rules.
