Biologists and landscape ecologists define the green roads as a faunal distribution corridors, as linear natural corridors that connect two or more existing habitats to preserve natural flora and fauna. Greenways are the integrity of linear open spaces that are planned and managed for ecological, recreational and cultural uses and protected and managed for these purposes. While most of the greenways are for recreation or nature conservation, some of them are planned to cover both. Greenways planned for recreation allow walking, cycling , organized sports and group activities. In addition, greenways that can connect with each other connect also with historical or natural objects as they follow natural corridors such as rivers, lakes and ridges.
