Applications of Machiavellian Principles Within The Walt Disne.docxjustine1simpson78276
Applications of Machiavellian Principles Within The Walt Disney Company
Guillermo Jimenez BUS 100W Dr. Beehler Gabrielle Alvarado Section 26 5 December 2015
Composed of warring city-states during the Italian Renaissance, Italy was governed by different rulers such as the Medici family, King Charles VII, and King Louis XII. Niccolo Machiavelli, an Italian diplomat appointed to the position of Second Chancellor in the Florentine government and exiled for allegedly conspiring against the newly restored Medici government, attempted to address the issue of a divided, foreign ruled Italy. The Prince by Niccolo Machiavelli, written for Lorenzo de ’Medici, urged Medici to unify and gain Italian independence from foreign control. In the book, Machiavelli provides a guideline for how a prince must act in order to gain and maintain his kingdom. In addition, Machiavelli gives historical examples of rulers who easily gained and maintained their empires as evidence of his suggestions, as well as examples of rulers who did not follow those guidelines. One characteristic a prince should have, according to Machiavelli, is the ability to master the art of war and to be ready to exercise it at any moment. A prince who annexes territories that share the same language or is within the same country as his kingdom must also bear in mind that he has to destroy the former ruler’s family and avoid changing laws and taxes if he wishes to hold that territory. Additionally, a prince must be able to deceive in order to maintain his dominion, but must also appear to be sincere in order to keep a positive public opinion. Although these Machiavellian principles were written during the Renaissance, they are still relevant today, especially in today’s business world. Corporations, seen as legal entities by the state, are constantly changing the business landscape as corporations either succeed or fail. Companies are constantly trying to increase their status in the world by attaining a larger market and eliminating competition. Thus, it seems that today’s companies use the guidelines established in The Prince to maintain or improve their position in their industry. The Walt Disney Company appears to utilize guidelines established in The Prince of mastering the art of war, managing to keep laws and taxes unchanged in newly added territories, and appearing to be sincere while being deceitful to effectively maintain and expand its empire.
The Walt Disney Company, along with many other successful corporations today, seem to follow Machiavelli’s advice concerning a corporation’s mastery of war. Corporations should not engage in war literally, but figuratively. Today, corporations must constantly think about new ways to stay ahead of the competition. In some instances, corporations must be innovative and creative in order to gain a competitive advantage. “A prince,” according to Machiavelli, “ought to have no other aim or thought, nor select anything else for his study, tha.

Understanding User Needs and Satisfying ThemAggregage
https://www.productmanagementtoday.com/frs/26903918/understanding-user-needs-and-satisfying-them
We know we want to create products which our customers find to be valuable. Whether we label it as customer-centric or product-led depends on how long we've been doing product management. There are three challenges we face when doing this. The obvious challenge is figuring out what our users need; the non-obvious challenges are in creating a shared understanding of those needs and in sensing if what we're doing is meeting those needs.
In this webinar, we won't focus on the research methods for discovering user-needs. We will focus on synthesis of the needs we discover, communication and alignment tools, and how we operationalize addressing those needs.
Industry expert Scott Sehlhorst will:
• Introduce a taxonomy for user goals with real world examples
• Present the Onion Diagram, a tool for contextualizing task-level goals
• Illustrate how customer journey maps capture activity-level and task-level goals
• Demonstrate the best approach to selection and prioritization of user-goals to address
• Highlight the crucial benchmarks, observable changes, in ensuring fulfillment of customer needs
