Targeted Defense for Malware & Targeted AttacksImperva
Sophisticated attacks leverage social engineering techniques and malware to compromise those individuals already on the inside of your enterprise, and then steal your data. By targeting your trusted employees, attackers can circumvent conventional defenses like firewalls and IPS solutions to penetrate your network and compromise your data center. This presentation will examine why attackers looking to steal sensitive data targeted your data center; explain how targeted attacks, often using spear phishing and malware, consistently defy perimeter and endpoint defenses; and present an eight step incident response model to help prevent, detect, and respond to targeted attacks.
Jerod Brennen - What You Need to Know About OSINTcentralohioissa
Open Source Intelligence Gathering (OSINT) is growing in popularity among attackers and defenders alike. When an attacker comes knocking on your network's front door, the warning lights go off in multiple systems (IDS, IPS, SIEM, WAF). More sophisticated attackers, however, spend considerable time gathering information using tools and techniques that never touch any of your systems. As a result, these attackers are able to execute their attacks and make off with proprietary data before you even know they are there. This presentation provides an introduction to many OSINT tools and techniques, as well as methods you can use to minimize your exposure.
Insider Threat Summit - The Future of Insider Threat DetectionObserveIT
The use of insider threat management software has grown dramatically over the last two years, but we’ve only started to scratch the surface of innovation. This presentation will not only show you where insider threat technology is today, but also where's it's headed over the next 18 months. See what’s capable with leading insider threat software and how it can be applicable for your organization.
Insider threats come in a variety of forms and may be malicious or simply the result of negligence. Insider attacks can cause more damage than outsider threats, so it is important that organizations understand how to protect against and remedy insider threats. The #CyberAvengers' Paul Ferrillo (a/k/a Director Fury) and Shawn Tuma (a/k/a Hulk) presented at the Practical Cybersecurity Risk Management Strategies program of the New Jersey State Bar Association (NJSBA) Cybersecurity Institute on November 17, 2017. In this presentation, Fury and Hulk focused the core #CyberAvengers message of the real-life cybersecurity issues facing most companies -- the basics of good cyber hygiene -- and explained how artificial intelligence and machine learning will help companies do a better job at getting these right, along with how and why AI/ML play a critical role in the future of cybersecurity.

Physical security controls have been found lacking in assessments against targets ranging from financial institutions to health care organizations, and from critical infrastructure and governments- city, state, and federal alike. While complex security programs address complex security problems, successful attacks often result from a cascade of minor security failures being leveraged in a damaging manner. In this session, walk in the shoes of an attacker as organizations are profiled, vulnerabilities cataloged, and attacks launched to gain unauthorized access to restricted areas and/or sensitive data. This 40 minute discussion will conclude with 10 minutes for Q&A on strategies to strengthen the existing physical security posture of an organization without overhauling all the guards, guns, and gates.
I’m probably the last person on earth you’d expect to encourage making insider threat a C-level priority after devoting a decade of my career to external threat and endpoint security, as the for CTO of McAfee and Chief Scientist for Lockheed Martin. Cyber Summit 2016: Insider Threat Indicators: Human BehaviourCybera Inc.
Serious threats to private and governmental organizations do not only come from the outside world, but also come from within. Some employees and contractors with legitimate access to buildings, networks, assets and information deliberately misuse their priviledged access to cause harm to their organization. What are the reasons behind their actions? Is it debts, greed, ideology, disgruntlement, or divided loyalty?
Regardless of their motivations or vulnerabilities, traitors have very similar types of personality and display a certain pattern of behaviours before committing an insider incident. As a prevention measure, it is vital that organizations and employees understand, recognize and detect the common indicators of insider threat. Would you recognize the signs?
Mario Vachon is an Insider Threat Security Specialist with the RCMP Departmental Security Branch.
Trends in AI:
- 67% of executives say AI will help humans and machines work together to be stronger using both artificial and human intelligence.
- 65% think that AI would free employees from menial tasks.
- 27% of executives say their organization plans to invest within a year in cybersecurity safeguards that use AI and machine learning.
So is Artificial Intelligence going to provide safety for us?
With every Security & Privacy Breach survey pointing towards insiders as a potential threat and incidents leading to data loss and violation of the corporate information security policy, it is imperative that we answer the following questions:

How do we mitigate this threat?
Statistics show that organizations face an ever increasing threat from compromised insiders. These trusted end users routinely have their endpoint security tested by malware and viruses.

The Value of Crowd-Sourced Threat IntelligenceImperva
On April 3, CNBC reported the details of a large-scale attack campaign targeting the banking industry. As a result of this campaign, multiple U.S. banks experienced website outages totaling 249 hours over a six week period. Would the damage from the attack campaign have been reduced if the banks had the ability to share crowd-sourced threat intelligence? Imperva's Application Defense Center (ADC) recently analyzed real-world traffic from sixty Web applications to identify attack patterns. The results of the study demonstrate how sharing attack patterns across a community of Web applications can significantly mitigate the risk of large-scale attack campaigns. This presentation will: identify how cross-site information sharing (crowd-sourcing) creates security intelligence, demonstrate the value of adding crowd-sourced intelligence to Web application security, and provide real-world examples of attack patterns that can be shared for community defense.
Despite huge investments in anti-virus software, next-gen firewalls, and IPS platforms, companies are still getting hacked. The new generation of advanced targeted attacks bypasses traditional defenses and put sensitive data at risk. It takes just minutes from the time an organization is compromised to the exfiltration of sensitive data. What's needed is a security solution that can detect and block data center threats while allowing easy, appropriate access to the assets essential to running your business. This presentation from Imperva and FireEye addresses data center security requirements and solutions.

Today’s cyber criminals are more sophisticated, more agile and more aggressive than traditional security measures can protect against. One simply needs to open a news source today to find a headline on a new breach - Office of Management Personal, Sony, Target are just a few examples of note. The increase in attacks and breaches can be attributed to a variety of factors, not the least of which include: a rise in asymmetric threats, commoditization of threats/attacks and incomplete security strategies. By incorporating cyber threat analysis in your security strategy, however, you can better counter and mitigate these threats.

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
