Target Audience
Survey Evaluation
Evaluation and analysis of the Target Audience
Survey conducted in the morning of Wednesday
10th September 2014
Age of the Target Audience
• For this question, I needed to know the age of the target
audience that my magazine would be being promoted at, and
therefore I quite simply asked the members of my survey
“What is your age?” – and gave them 4 options, aged 16,
17, 18 or 19 years of age.
• The results are as follows:
• 9 people were 16 years old.
• 1 person was 17 years old.
• Nobody was 18 years old.
• 1 person was 19 years old.
Parent School of the Target
Audience
• I needed to know for this question what the parent
school of the target audience was, as if it was more
predominantly one school then the magazine would focus
on one school and not focus on the other, and from
my results I believe the majority of my target audience
is students from The Vale, as my results show.
• Students from The Vale Academy: 8
• Students from Sir John Nelthorpe: 3
Features of my Magazine
• The next question I asked my target audience was the question that relates to
the Features that I put in my Magazine. All I did was ask them what features
they would like in it and gave them free range to answer as they wanted. For
purposes beyond my control I have to remove the unpleasant answers from my
survey. However, the clean answers that I was given were the following:
• 1 Person wanted Daily Life
• 1 Person wanted Important News
• 1 Person wanted Events that are happening.
• 1 Person wanted an Agony Aunt section.
• 2 People wanted a Gossip section.
• 2 People wanted a section on Celebrities.
Photos in my Magazine
• I then asked my Target Audience to tell me what
photographs people wanted in the College Magazine I will be
creating, and they come up with the following responses.
• 4 People wanted pictures of Daily Life
• 3 People wanted pictures of Important “Stuff”
• 1 Person wanted pictures that were News Orientated
• 1 Person wanted pictures of other Students
• 1 Person wanted pictures of Celebrities
What do people like about
College
• I then asked my Target Audience to tell me things that they
liked about college, as if there was a trend, then I would
aim articles at it.
• My results don’t particularly show a trend, as there is no
overwhelming majority, and some people didn’t particularly
answer the questions, but my results are as follows:
• 2 People like the Relaxed Approach
• 2 People like the Calm Atmostphere
• And 1 Person identified they like Free Periods, Freedom and
Not wearing Uniform
What do people dislike about
College
• To coincide with the question about likes of college, I
asked them what they disliked about college, and the
responses were as follows:
• 1 Person said they disliked the fact lessons were spread
across 2 “campuses”
• 1 Person said they disliked the Early Morning starts.
• 1 Person said they disliked the idea of Double Periods.
What colours do people like on
a Magazine
• I then had to ask people about what colours people
liked on a Magazine, so that I knew what colours to
put on my magazine and the responses were:
• 1 Vote: - White, Purple, Mixture
• 2 Votes:- Black, Plum
• 3 Votes:- Pink, Orange
• 4 Votes:- Blue
• 5 Votes:- Red
What would YOU put in “Your
Column”
• The next question was an interesting one, as I asked
the Target Audience if I gave them a column, what
would they write about. The results were as follows:
• 1 Person would write “Important “Stuff””
• 1 Person would write about Gaming
• 2 People would write about Certain Courses, Coming Up
and Gossip/Fashion.
Magazine Masthead
• For their final question, I asked the Target Audience
what they would call their magazine, and their responses
were:
• College Now
• College Chronicle
• College Weekly
In Summary
• So, after conducting my Target Audience Survey with
fellow members of Brigg Sixth Form College, I have
decided that my survey does help me with what I need
to complete for my main project, and some of the
results that I was given will help massively with my
finished project, so I am happy with the way I
conducted this Preliminary Survey.
