Target Audience Research
Louisa and Rhianna
Age
• The target audience age for our trailer for the film will be
8-25 year olds. The certificate for our film will be rated
PG. We have chosen this target audience because we
believe we are relatable to it and the experience of a
modern day fairytale will be relevant to the viewers. As
our film is aimed at the same audience as Disney and
Disney is loved by all ages we don’t think our film is tied
down by age but to be strict on ourselves we think 8-25 is
good because children love fairytales and most adults
have grown up with fairytales so naturally everyone is
intrigued to see what a modern day fairytale could bring.
Gender
• The target audience gender will be females. This
is because most love stories are aimed at women
as women are most interested and are able to
put themselves in the situation of the characters.
Women are also more sympathetic towards
different situations rather than men which will
make it for easier for us. Also with Rhianna and I
being female it will make that a lot easier for us
to understand our target audience and give them
something that they will be interested in and will
want to watch.
Income Level
• The income level of our audience will be varied
from £0- an estimate of £30,00. This is because
the legal age for work is 16 so obviously 8-15 year
olds will not be on a sufficient wage. We believe
the income level of our audience is slightly
irrelevant as we are aiming our film at the same
audience as Disney and Disney’s audience is very
very wide. Although we are not expecting
extremely high earners such as Aristocracy to be
interested or part of our audience.
Education
• The education of our audience will have to be
the bare minimum, this is because 8 year olds
are at the early stages of education and will
not have the same degree of education as a
GCSE/ A Level and Degree Students. But we
believe each age group included in our
audience will interpret the film differently, for
example 23 year olds will find parts funny
which 10 year olds wont and vise versa.
Tastes in film genres
• We believe our audience will naturally be
interested in Fairytales but also comedy’s and
Romance films. This is due to the naturally
comical nature of our film and the naturally
romantic aspect of the film with the main
characters of Rhianna and Harry. Romance will
be our main influence in our film as that is was
fairytales are based upon. Romantic comedy’s
which we hope will influence our film is ‘Just
My Luck’.
Class
• We believe our target audience will be mainly
classless as Disney appeal to such a wide
audience. But we expect it to be mainly
working class- to upper middle class. Disney
are part of childrens and adults lives, we hope
that our film will have the same effect on our
viewers and every class can come together
and enjoy our film regardless of background of
wealth.
Socio economic groupings
• The population is divided into 6 socio- economic groups or social grades,
which are based on the occupation or job• A- Higher Managerial, Administrative, Proffessional, for example, Chief
Executive, Senior Civil Servant, Surgeon
• B- Intermediate Managerial, Administrative, Professional, for example,
Bank Manager, Teacher
• C1- Supervisory, Clerical, Junior Managerial, for example, Shop Floor
Supervisor, Bank Clerk, Sales Person
• C2- Skilled Manual, for example, Electrician, Carpenter
• D- Semi- Skilled workers e.g Electrician, Carpenter
• E- Casual Labourers, Pensioners, Unemployed, for example, Pensioners
without private pensions and anyone living on benefits.
• We want to base our target audience around the socio economic groups of
C1, C2, D, E, we believe any group are able to watch our film but we feel
these groups are more realistic. This is due to the fact that our film will be
low budget and may not suit the tastes of the groups of A & B.
