After presenting my pitch to a focus group, I have been able to create a target audience
profile based on data gathered through a questionnaire:

Social Networking: From the pitch, it
was clear that Jade would attract a
young demographic aged 15-30 years.
This age group are most likely to use
social networking sites, including
Snapchat, Instagram and Twitter.
Facebook is also a popular site, with
71% of all teenagers using it to
communicate.
TV: The pitch suggested that the short film will attract a young, female demographic;
most likely due to this target audience’s similarity to characters in the film. TV Shows
this group are interested in include reality TV shows Love Island and Made in
Chelsea, whereby the target audience aspire to be like the people that feature in
these shows. Teenage Drama also attracted interest from this demographic due to
realistic stories and social issues being portrayed in a dramatic, intriguing way. This
included Skins and Hollyoaks, in which most characters are teenagers. The
audience were also interested in BBC Three drama Thirteen, which was used to
premiere the relaunch of BBC Three as an online service in 2016. BBC Three has
been a huge success for the company due to the use of online advertisement and
streaming. The focus group also suggested that they enjoy watching shows on
Netflix due to its constant availability and easy access online. TV Channels the
group enjoy include MTV, E4 and ITV2 which broadcast programmes all aimed at a
teenage demographic, including Made in Chelsea, The Only Way is Essex, Love
Island and Ex on the Beach.
Radio and Celebrity Culture: It was identifiable from the pitch
that the target audience is of ages 15-30, and has a huge interest
in celebrity culture, fashion and lifestyle. This is due to influences
on social media by pop and hip-hop artists who aim to produce
music for a broad audience. This included Justin Bieber and Drake
who regularly feature as Number 1 on the UK Music Official Chart.
Beyoncé, Selena Gomez and Adele also have a large following
around the world due to their original music and wealthy lifestyle.
As of June 2016, Selena Gomez is the person with the highest
number of followers on social networking site Instagram, with over
86 million. A large influence of music tastes also comes from radio
stations aimed at teenagers, including BBC Radio 1 which has
over 9 million listeners. The station also has a large following
online and attracts world-class musicians to its station to perform
in features such as Live Lounge and Radio 1 Big Weekend, both
of which are aimed at a teenage demographic.
