Artificial intelligence (AI) offers new opportunities to radically reinvent the way we do business. This study explores how CEOs and top decision makers around the world are responding to the transformative potential of AI.
The case study discusses the potential of drone delivery and the challenges that need to be addressed before it becomes widespread.
Key takeaways:
Drone delivery is in its early stages: Amazon's trial in the UK demonstrates the potential for faster deliveries, but it's still limited by regulations and technology.
Regulations are a major hurdle: Safety concerns around drone collisions with airplanes and people have led to restrictions on flight height and location.
Other challenges exist: Who will use drone delivery the most? Is it cost-effective compared to traditional delivery trucks?
Discussion questions:
Managerial challenges: Integrating drones requires planning for new infrastructure, training staff, and navigating regulations. There are also marketing and recruitment considerations specific to this technology.
External forces vary by country: Regulations, consumer acceptance, and infrastructure all differ between countries.
Demographics matter: Younger generations might be more receptive to drone delivery, while older populations might have concerns.
Stakeholders for Amazon: Customers, regulators, aviation authorities, and competitors are all stakeholders. Regulators likely hold the greatest influence as they determine the feasibility of drone delivery.

9. A GREAT SUPPORT WORKER WILL ENABLE SOMEONE WITH
SUPPORT NOT DISABLE THEM WITH CARE
A great support team will engage with individuals and teach them skills which will improve their level of
independence where ever possible. They will not take over and do the task for them because it is quicker, Nore
will they leave them to it be cause they are independent and can do it, so the support worker leaves the person
with limited safety awareness in the kitchen which could result in a preventable injury………
A good support worker will work with and get to know the person first in order to establish their needs, wants
and level of ability and support according to the persons needs identified. They will guide the person and
teach skills which will increase their independence and experiences in life.
A good support worker will offer guidance, information, support to individuals to enable them to achieve their
personal goals and outcomes personal to them.
A good support worker plans their working day around the individual they are supporting, and will be
constructed in a way which is contributing to achieving their positive outcomes.
10. SUPPORTING AND DEVELOPING THE
TEAM
Lead by example
Don’t become familiar with your co-workers it is a dangerous risk factor for safeguarding,
professional means, friendly, loyal, supportive, role model, honest, trustworthy. Not
besties……How can you report your bestie if they conduct an act which amounts to abuse?
Support your team through sessions and appraisals and offer support so they understand the
fundamental standards they do need to know and understand what experts and service users
says good care and support is.
Regularly review training needs during support to ensure they have the necessary skills, and
can develop themselves. Remember that we have a responsibility to respect the teams right to
a good work/ home balance without discrimination.
Offer them a route to further develop, lots of people have desires to grow so encourage this,
let them know we are doing an important job which has a huge effect on many peoples life’s
and families.
11. THINK OF THIS EVERY DAY
Support your team and show you respect them at all times. Listen to their needs as well as the
individual you are supporting. Protect them from workplace harassment and bullying by being
around to pick up on issues and negativity. Listen to concerns and be supportive. Bully and
harassment is a huge issue in the care sector and effects most businesses. This can have an
repairable effect on the team and ultimately the service deliver. Ignorance can be a risk factor for
safeguarding issues if people feel intimidation at work, as well as cause stress and anxiety in
people experiencing it.
Be aware of your own behaviour and conduct, being in a role of authority it is easy for someone
to feel intimidated and anxious if you come across negative because your in a mad mood. Don’t
become over familiar…. Remain professional. A good Manager acting professional will work with
integrity, honesty, and offer support and guidance.
We work towards supporting people achieve, this should be inclusive of individuals, their family if
needed, and the team.
According to Leading experts a good quality service is safe, effective, caring, responsive and well lead. There is a set of fundamental standards which are used to measure/ ensure people are receiving good positive outcomes from receiving the service.
A safe service puts people at the heart of service delivery, will respect the wishes and rights of the individuals receiving the service, such as consent to care, dignity and respect. A safe service will have robust systems in place to ensure regular review of needs, risk assessments and audits to check and ensure quality. It will have robust systems in place to protect individual from abuse. Regular competency checks will be completed, as well as regular support sessions and appraisals. This is essential for support the team who are directly delivering the service, their feedback is essential. Complains are addressed timely and recommendations are listened to as part of a learning curb. Transparency and trust is essential. Co-operation with other professionals when needed is essential.
The service is zero tolerance to workplace, harassment or other forms of indirect, direct bullying.
Whether or not a service is effective can be analysed by looking at what the person receiving the service has experienced. Have they achieved their desired outcomes, if not what did you do. Did you manage it effectively, could things of been managed better. Is there outside agencies that could help the person achieve it. The service is effective because the person is experiencing support which allows them to grow their skills and are making positive steps to becoming more independent. Where this is not possible due to complex disability then the person is experiencing a better quality of life.
A caring service listens to the people concerned. The individual firstly and other people important to the individual. The support team demonstrate compassion, empathy and consideration. They treat everyone as equals and work together supporting each other to work towards the same goal, enabling someone to achieve a healthy, positive quality of life. A caring service will enable people not disable them by taking over. Learning skills can be achieved by most people, don’t assume someone cant.
A good service is responsive because it observes best practice and learns from mistakes. A good service is responsive because it addresses issues identified through observations, support sessions, concerns, safeguarding etc and complains, near misses and accidents, and implements measures to prevent it again. It will keep individuals informed on issues concerning the individual. Be open, honest at all times, working with integrity.
A well lead service will have a great supportive team who all work together…. No I in team, this includes managers, team leaders and support workers. Managers should lead by example, be professional, supportive, and around….. A manger has an important part to play in educating and developing your team. Support your team to develop their own skills, the better the skills, the better quality output. Respect the team. They are their everyday on the front line. How you treat them will reflect and be voices on the front line, passed on to individuals and their family. Valuing every member is essential and respecting their input as it encourages good effort.
Having good people skills are essential. I personally have experienced bad management styles where I was feeling intimidated by someone who became my direct line manager. This experience made my life miserable. Remembering we have a responsibility to our team as well as the individuals at the heart of the service.
