This is a presentation by Dada Robert in a Your Skill Boost masterclass organised by the Excellence Foundation for South Sudan (EFSS) on Saturday, the 25th and Sunday, the 26th of May 2024.
He discussed the concept of quality improvement, emphasizing its applicability to various aspects of life, including personal, project, and program improvements. He defined quality as doing the right thing at the right time in the right way to achieve the best possible results and discussed the concept of the "gap" between what we know and what we do, and how this gap represents the areas we need to improve. He explained the scientific approach to quality improvement, which involves systematic performance analysis, testing and learning, and implementing change ideas. He also highlighted the importance of client focus and a team approach to quality improvement.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. 2. Value Rights
Social workers deal with common
human needs. They work to prevent or
alleviate individual, group and
community problems, and to improve
the quality of life for all people. In
doing so, they seek to uphold
the rights of the individuals or groups
with whom they are working.
3. Rights and Responsibilities

and their responsibilities.

6. Responsibilities
Social workers are responsible for helping
individuals, families, and groups of people to
cope with problems they're facing to improve
their patients' lives. One aspect of this is
teaching skills and developing mechanisms for
patients to rely on to better their lives and
experiences.
7. Responsibilities of a Social Worker
1. Assess Your Client
Assessment involves getting to know your client on a
multidimensional level to determine the most effective
way to work with towards positive change. In this
stage, you’ll gather information about the client’s
situation within their individual, organizational, and
societal systems, which allows you to learn the details
of their family and medical histories, friendships,
schools, jobs, and the issues they’ve had within each
system.
8. 2. Create and Implement A
Treatment Plan
Once you’ve assessed your client, it’s time to work on a
treatment plan that will empower them to overcome,
recover from, or adjust to their situation. At this stage,
you’ll listen carefully to the client in order to jointly
define the goals and criteria that establish wellness for
your client. Treatment plans generally include
continued one-on-one individual therapy sessions to
help your client move towards their desired goal, and
could include group or family sessions geared toward a
specific challenge they’re dealing with. Flexibility in
treatment plans is necessary.
9. 3. Secure and Refer Needed
Resources
Many times, creating and implementing a treatment
plan involves more than just “talk-therapy.” Clients
often benefit when they’re connected to community
resources and government agencies such as food
banks, health care and unemployment services, and
benefits programs such as food stamp programs. Social
workers may also refer clients to medical professionals
for further treatment, support groups specifically
geared to their client’s issue, job-placement recruiters,
and child-care resources to help them successfully
meet their wellness initiatives.
10. 4. Evaluate and Monitor
Improvement
Once treatment is underway, you’ll continuously
evaluate whether your client is moving towards their
goals according to the criteria established when you
created their treatment plan. The objectives are to
determine how you can continue to support your
client and if your current methods are effective. For
instance, sometimes the treatment plan needs to be
changed according to new problems or information
presented during treatment, if goals have been met,
or if a crisis erupted along the way. The key is to
remain flexible in helping your client move towards
their goals in the most effective way.
11. 5. Serve as a Client’s Advocate
Being a direct advocate for an individual, advocating
within organizations and communities, or engaging in
advocacy at the policy/research level they have a
strong calling to make the world a better place by
representing those who cannot effectively represent
themselves. On an individual level, social workers
stand for another person, often in complex situations.
For instance, they’ll provide necessary interventions
when a child is in an abusive home, working with the
family, police, and DCFS to provide immediate and
continued safety for the child.
12. ACCOUNTABILITIES
Social workers who are responsible for removing
foster children can collaborate with colleagues and
supervisors to ensure all legal communication
deadlines and requirements are met. Social
workers provide critical support and services to
various populations within ethical frameworks.
13. 5 Ways Social Workers Should
Hold Themselves Accountable
Conflicts of Interest
Client Confidentiality
Cultural Competency
Accountability to Clients
Legal Deadlines and Requirements
14. 1. Conflicts of Interest
Social work conflicts of interest are situations
where personal histories and relationships create
opportunities for partiality and unfairness. If a
social worker is assigned a case involving friends or
family, the case will typically be assigned to a
different unit. If the case involves a fellow social
worker, the case will typically be assigned to an
entirely different county. Minor conflicts of
interest can be minimized through setting clear
and appropriate boundaries at the beginning of
the case or relationship.
15. 2. Client Confidentiality
State law, government agencies and professional
ethics all guarantee clients the rights to privacy,
anonymity and confidentiality. However, some social
workers may not realize that if they see a client in
public outside of designated work hours, they are
generally not allowed to greet or acknowledge the
client. They may also not realize that discussing case
information and client details in a public setting like
a restaurant is violating the client's right to privacy
and confidentiality. Social workers can avoid these
problems by adhering to state-mandated
information security and client privacy rules.
16. 3. Cultural Competency
Social workers interact with a rich variety of clients
from various backgrounds, so they must have strong
knowledge of social diversity and cultural
competency. Social workers should participate in
both mandatory and optional training to increase
their understanding of human differences and
appreciation of our similarities. Fortunately, many
organizations and government agencies offer liaison
opportunities for working with specific groups such
as ethnic origin, gender expression and immigration
status.
17. 4. Accountability to Clients
The goal of social work is to improve the safety and
well-being of clients, but there are city, state and
federal legal obligations that must be continually
satisfied. This is why the concept of informed
consent is so important within the world of social
work. Informed consent means that a social worker
must clearly explain options, services, costs and
consequences of proposed choices and possible
outcomes. Social workers should use a standardized
method with each client to explain that they can
provide and withdraw consent at any time.
18. 5. Legal Deadlines and
Requirements
Social work professionals who are employed in specific
industries, such as government and healthcare, must
conform to strict legal deadlines and requirements. For
example, child protective services (CPS) workers who
remove children from unsafe and unhealthy living
situations are required to legally notify parents or
guardians, file appropriate court motions and meet state
child welfare requirements. Social workers who are
responsible for removing foster children can collaborate
with colleagues and supervisors to ensure all legal
communication deadlines and requirements are met.
19. Social workers provide critical support and
services to various populations within ethical
frameworks. Social workers who hold themselves
accountable will enjoy enhanced career, client, and
personal satisfaction.
20. Accountability to Clients
The goal of social work is to improve the safety and well-
being of clients, but there are city, state and federal legal
obligations that must be continually satisfied. This is
why the concept of informed consent is so important
within the world of social work. Informed consent
means that a social worker must clearly explain options,
services, costs and consequences of proposed choices
and possible outcomes. Social workers should use a
standardized method with each client to explain that
