Soft Skills You Need Are Not Always Taught in ClassTechWell
For years in the software industry, the focus of discussion, programs, and expense has been on career skill development to enhance team performance. To support skill development, a variety of certifications and training opportunities have been created to increase technical knowledge acquisition. Gaining technical knowledge is important, but this knowledge is often secondary to having other skills that are of more value to the organization. Jon Hagar explores these so-called “soft” skills—analysis, rational thought, communication, mentoring, technical debt management, reframing problems, modeling, time management, and social aptitude—and discusses the differences between knowledge from study and practiced skills. Delegates are asked to consider the value and to discuss how to develop and improve such skills. Finally, through an entertaining analogy Jon highlights the differences between skill and knowledge.

Achieving Technical Excellence in Your Software Teams - from Devternity Peter Gfader
Our industry has a problem: We are not lacking software methodologies, programming languages, tools or frameworks but we need great software engineers.
Great software engineer teams build quality-in and deliver great software on a regular basis. The technical excellence of those engineers will help you escape the "Waterfall sandwich" and make your organization a little more agile, from the inception of an idea till they go live.
I will talk about my experiences from the last 15 years, including small software delivery teams until big financial institutions.
Why would a company like to be "agile"?
How can a company achieve that?
How can you achieve Technical Excellence in your software teams?
What developer skills are more important than languages, methods or frameworks?
This will be an interactive session with a Q&A at the end.
Leveraging AI & ML to Automoate Repetitive TasksSabrinaBandel1

During this talk, you will learn how to become a Business Analyst while still being a developer, tester, or product manager. I will introduce some of the secrets that great Business Analysts use to get people collaborating, discussing the problem, and agreeing on a solution. Learn how to run a design studio, 3 amigos session, or a story kickoff. Don’t just be a zombie reading your next ticket. Let’s think about the problem and how we’ll solve it together!
The most critical step in the agile transformation and DevOps adoption process is identifying the bottlenecks in the product delivery cycle. So, how do you go about finding and eliminating those dreaded bottlenecks? Tanya Kravtsov shares her experiences along with tools and methods that facilitate the discovery process while encouraging innovative thinking among team members. Join Tanya to explore ways you can use Mind Maps, Innovation Games (Speed Boat, Buy a Feature, and more), Stick Figure Process Flows, and Team Collaboration to identify, prioritize, and resolve bottlenecks. Learn ways to deal with the most common bottlenecks that cripple development progress—data generation, test environment setup, test execution, and results analysis. Automating these manual processes ensures the quality of the product by testing continuously and giving us more time for exploratory testing. This in turn helps improve developer productivity, reduces delivery cycle time, and adheres to agile principles of responding to change quickly while delivering quality software to customers. Leave with a new understanding of development bottlenecks and the tools you need to stamp them out.
The document discusses recent trends in cyber security. It begins with threat statistics showing a rapid expansion of the cyber security landscape, with the number of data breaches and records exposed increasing significantly each year. It then provides a technical overview of the top threats such as mobile application vulnerabilities, XML entity expansion attacks, SQL injection, and improper use of HTTP headers. The document also covers education and certification opportunities in cyber security, individual research areas, the local job market, and communities like Colombo White Hat Security.
The document discusses building a Twitter bot using Javascript and provides information about Thinkful, an online bootcamp for becoming a web developer or data scientist. It also lists Sean Jun and Joe Previte as instructors and Shannon Gallagher as the Thinkful community manager.
This document discusses the role and responsibilities of a technical team lead. It begins by defining a technical team lead as a leader responsible for a development team who spends at least 30% of their time writing code. It then outlines the typical activities of a technical team lead, including coding (40% of time), design (30%), integration (15%), and other miscellaneous tasks (15%). It discusses the skills needed for the role, such as people skills, communication skills, and technical skills. It also provides advice on how to transition into a technical team lead role, such as getting the necessary skills, finding a mentor, and understanding different organizational structures.
MIT Sloan Management Review published an article in 2007 titled Avoiding the Alignment Trap in IT. What the researchers discovered is that organizations don’t become high performing by starting initiatives focused on aligning business and technology. Rather, only by improving delivery performance first was it possible to achieve IT Enabled Growth.
This presentation shows why Agile transformations won't save your software delivery challenges, what supporting evidence has accumulated in the last decade, and how to avoid the common traps that occur in digital transformations.
