Assuring VNF image integrity and host sealing in telco cloudShankar Lal
In Telco cloud environment, virtual network functions
(VNFs) can be shipped in the form of virtual machine
images and hosted over commodity hardware. It is likely that
these VNF images will contain highly sensitive data and mission critical network operations. For this reason, these VNF images are prone to malicious tampering during shipping and even after uploaded to the cloud image database. Furthermore, due to various applications, there is a requirement from mobile network operators to seal VNFs on specific platforms which satisfy certain hardware and software configurations. This requires cloud service providers to introduce some mechanisms to verify VNF image integrity and host sealing before the instantiation of VNFs. In this paper, we present a proof of concept demonstrated with the help of an experimental setup to solve the above mentioned problems. We also evaluate the performance of the envisioned setup and present some insights on its usability.

At TAD Summit 2013, it became apparent that most application developers were challenged to demonstrate their solutions without a Mobile Network upon which to host them. Consequently, a Group of TAD Members decided to work together to build a 'Cloud Based Mobile Network' to show off the capability of their systems and to provide a network platform into which other Application Platforms could interface their components. The first iteration of this, showing a basic mobile core network was demonstrated at TAD Summit 2014 in Istanbul. This consisted of Truphone Network services working through OpenCloud Hosted Open Source IMS (Project Clearwater from Metaswitch) together with Restcomm Application Services (from Telestax). This session will introduce the component parts of the 2015 TADSummit Demo (TADCloud MNO) and will outline their functionality as a preview to a fuller demonstration during the breakout sessions on Wednesday.

Presented by Nico Janssens, Senior Researcher, Bell Labs, Alcatel-Lucent and Florian Otel, Director for Business Development and Strategy, Nuage Networks
In this talk we will present how at Bell-Labs (Alcatel-Lucent R&D division) we benefit from using Docker in combination with the SDN solution from Nuage Networks for development and deployment of a next-gen chat-based communication platform. This communication platform does intensive data analytics, runs a number of multi-media services and can control remote appliances (e.g. thermostats, robots, cameras, etc). We will illustrate the stringent telco requirements to successfully operate such a communication platform, including some non-functional needs like high-availability, reliability, elasticity, QoS and lifecycle management. Furthermore, we will explain why we selected docker as a hosting platform and how we have utilized it. We will also share some of the deployment scenarios we are facing and how these are addressed by combining Docker and Nuage VSP. Lastly, we will share the lessons we have learned during this development process, and propose some improvements/extensions for Docker to evolve into an application stack that is able to meet the stringent needs of telco applications.

Supercharging CPaaS Growth & Margins with Identity and Authentication
Aditya Khurjekar, GM Prove Protocol
Mobile networks were designed for communication, yet commerce is driving most of the demand for mobile connectivity today
The growth segments in today’s digital economy benefit from CPaaS APIs for Identity verification, authentication, proofs & claims
Commerce-enabling CPaaS APIs rely on the intrinsic security of mobile network and devices
Deterministic (rather than probabilistic) authentication drastically reduces fraud, hence increases margins
The secure element in mobile devices has been under-utilized by carriers
FIDO standard presents a horizontal application opportunity for hardware based (deterministic) authentication
Authenticated ID verification is key to secure yet seamless digital onboarding, leading to financial inclusion & consumer protection
The needs of the new crypto-based (web3) economy can also be satisfied with smart CPaaS offerings that preserve anonymity/pseudonymity
The imminent ubiquity of eSIMs is timely to fight fraud in the increasingly sophisticated digital & crypto-enabled economy
It’s time for a purpose-built global payments network!

Time to ditch the ‘dumb-pipe’ – reinventing the core mobile network, to put developers first.
Mike Bromwich, CEO / Co-Founder Stacuity & Tim Dowling, Co-Founder Stacuity
The emergence of public cloud has revolutionized the way developers can muster and deploy virtual infrastructures, as and when required.
In contrast, mobile networks are still rigidly defined and protected by operators, who are unable or unwilling to offer such control and flexibility.
As a result, the mobile network operates as little more than a dumb-pipe (unless you have lots of patience and deep pockets).
Addressing this problem requires a different approach, not just the creation of a thin façade over legacy network elements.

A tale of scale & speed: How the US Navy is enabling software delivery from l...sonjaschweigert1
Rapid and secure feature delivery is a goal across every application team and every branch of the DoD. The Navy’s DevSecOps platform, Party Barge, has achieved:
- Reduction in onboarding time from 5 weeks to 1 day
- Improved developer experience and productivity through actionable findings and reduction of false positives
- Maintenance of superior security standards and inherent policy enforcement with Authorization to Operate (ATO)
Development teams can ship efficiently and ensure applications are cyber ready for Navy Authorizing Officials (AOs). In this webinar, Sigma Defense and Anchore will give attendees a look behind the scenes and demo secure pipeline automation and security artifacts that speed up application ATO and time to production.
We will cover:
- How to remove silos in DevSecOps
- How to build efficient development pipeline roles and component templates
- How to deliver security artifacts that matter for ATO’s (SBOMs, vulnerability reports, and policy evidence)
- How to streamline operations with automated policy checks on container images

Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
