SYMPHONI C BAREBONE S ORCH (SBO)

Dear Musician,

The Symphonic Barebones Orchestra was created to provide you
with an instrument for both your artistic and professional ambitions.
As an SBO Member Musician, you enjoy the same artistic and
professional freedom in the democracy of a chamber ensemble,
however guided by the structure of an orchestral ensemble, and
supported by the resources and ideals of artist's service
organization.

Because our egalitarian structure of SBO is unlike traditional
chamber orchestras, you will have the opportunity to explore your ideas
about music through many venues. For example, your ideas may become
opportunities for joint collaborations with peer conductors and multi-
talented artists who in turn will collaborate with you. In addition, you
will have the opportunity to present the premiere and participate in the
promotion of a fellow colleague's new or rarely heard composition. We
will also encourage you to present philanthropic educational concert
programs of your favorite symphonies for a variety of audience types i.e.
hospitals, schools and other non-profit entities. There will also be
opportunities for SBO Musicians who are interested in performing
concertos with orchestra and/or chorus. Opportunities will also be
available for musicians to present and/or perform solo recitals through
the MMML cooperative artist series program. As musicians and music
lovers, we believe that opportunities are endless for excellent musicians
with ideas and commitment to concert music.

As an SBO Musician, all facets of your experience and training will
come together and make sense. Most importantly, you will have the
chance to make your unique contribution for future concert audiences.

The Symphonic Barebones (SBO) is being created as a vehicle for new
performers to develop and practice an integrated musicianship that
synergizes music of the past with the myriad of art forms of the present,
to prepare musicians and audiences alike for the concert music of the
future.

Equally important, SBO recognizes that today's concert musician has
evolved to being among the most resilient citizens, ready to adapt to the
unpredictable dynamics of society.

Consequently, the concert musicians are not only Performers, Educators,
and Directors; but have diffracted their inherent leadership to becoming
music/non-music Producers, Managers, Librarians, Administrators,
Programmers, Recording Engineers, Researchers, Therapists; and in the
creative sector as Writers and Composers.



The SBO

Vision
• The professional objective of the SBO mission is to promote the
growth of skilled musicians equally committed to the chamber
orchestra protocol -- through their own leadership skills, either
inherently as an artist or acquired from one of contemporary
society's multitude of career industries. SBO equips its members
with the necessary tools for this development, including
performance (concerto appearance and/or a chamber recital date)
and coaching opportunities, individual promotion kits in both
traditional and new media; and provides the instrument for
individual ideas to bring music and communities as close as
possible.

• The social imperative of SBO is to bring music to under-accessed audiences.
Because SBO will hold multiple residencies in various established institutions in
New York City, member musicians will have the opportunity to share and
demonstrate their expertise while revitalizing the artistic life and well being of the
respective community.

• The SBO repertory includes standard literature for chamber orchestra,
complemented by joint ventures with ensembles and companies of all artistic
disciplines, genres and media.

To realize your vision, provides the

• To apply your years of practice of traditional concert music and its
standards, while increasing your music potential by performing new
music and working with colleague conductors and composers.

• To realize your ideas for and by a chamber orchestra, either
artistically through the performance of a new work of your choice; as
an educator for new audiences; as a producer for presentations outside
of the classical concert paradigm.

• To be presented as a concerto soloist, recitalist, or chamber
musician with colleague SBO Members. Press kits in both
traditional (photo, bio) and new (web presence) media are supplied
to each SBO Artist.

• To earn automatic membership i n t o M M M L ( M u s i c , M u s i c i a n s , M u s i c
Lovers), the professional musicians association that connects
musicians worldwide to professional opportunities through its
publications and website.

• To make quality music and art fun with peers that share the same
standards and vision in the performance of a new repertory that
challenges and reflects the emerging culture for the next millennium.



Community Participation
Joint VENTURE Opportunities for all Artists

Non-orchestral musicians and artists of all disciplines are called to
join collaborative forces with SBO in opera, theater, dance, ballet,
multimedia & new music technology, writing, photography, painting,
graphic arts; and all popular contemporary genres of music. Proposals by
each SBO Musician for joint ventures with other creatives are strongly
encouraged.

2) Your choice of two from the orchestral excerpts listed in the SBO Audition Repertory;
3) Your choice of:

a. An excerpt from any composition composed for your instrument after 1970.
b. Improvise in Jazz/Free styles.

4) Present a brief informal proposal for an artistic vision that benefits both the orchestra and the community.
