This document announces and describes a new two-day music festival called Bands and Brews that will take place in April in Newcastle, Australia. It will feature 12 up-and-coming local bands across various genres performing at Foghorn Brewhouse, Newcastle's only in-bar brewery. The festival aims to showcase Newcastle's diversity of musical talent and emerging craft beer culture to promote community engagement and Newcastle as an entertaining place to be year-round.
2. NEWCASTLE’S MUSIC SCENE
• Newcastle is a city with an abundance of
bands, all from varied genres. There is no
overeaching scene or subculture, but the
variety of music on offer has lead to people
listening to multiple different genres of music.
3. WHY LIVE MUSIC?
• Live music can benefit the community as they
create a platform for social interaction.
Increased social interaction engages the
community to connect on the basis of shared
music tastes. Having a good live music scene
would not only engage exsisting community
members, but attract others to engage based
on similar interests.
4. Introducing the Hunter’s newest
music event…
BANDS AND BREWS
• Get a taste of the Hunter’s diverse range of up
and coming bands as well as local brews.
• Bands and Brews is a two day event held in
April at Newcastle’s only in-bar brewery,
Foghorn.
5. WHY BANDS AND BREWS?
• Newcastle is well renowned for it’s range of
artists. Bands and Brews shows off a bunch of
artists from all genres, ranging from acoustic to
metal.
• Newcastle also has an emerging craft beer
culture, with it’s newest addition being
microbrewery Foghorn
• Beers and Brews combines these two defining
aspects of Newcastle to create community
engagement
6. WHAT YOU’LL BE HEARING
• Beers and Brews showcases 12 up and coming
bands from the Hunter. They are from various
genres from metal to acoustic. This shows
Newcastle’s diversity and that Newcastle
doesn’t associate with a single genre or
subculture.

8. ARTIST SELECTION
Artists were sourced and selected through an
online search of Newcastle bands. This shows the
way technology is used to discover new bands
easily, while still maintaining the demand for live
music. Attendees will be sent an email with links to
the artists performing prior to the event. Up and
coming artists, rather than well established artists,
were chosen for this event to invigorate the music
community and uncover the hidden gems we have
to offer.
9. VENUE
Foghorn Brewhouse on King street is an ideal
location to showcase Newcastle musical and
brewing talent. It is Newcastle’s first bar with an
onsite brewery. It regularly has live music and
has plenty of space for artists to play. It’s
location is central to many other bars and
Newcastle attraction and shows off Newcastle’s
metropolitan side.
10. NEWCASTLE IN AUTUMN
Beers and Brews will be held on the 8th and 9th
of April 2015. As Newcastle thrives in the
summer months, Beers and Brews aims to
promote Newcastle as an entertaining location
all year around.
11. BEER
Beers and Brews will showcase Newcastle’s
growing craft beer culture. The music played at
Foghorn during the festival not only is the main
focus on the event, but can create an
environment within the brewhouse that lends
itself to social interaction and community
engagement.
12. WHO WILL BE THERE?
The intended audience is very widespread. As it
is uncommon for people to affiliate with just
one genre, we expect a wide range of people.
We have targeted young adults as they are
Newcastle’s biggest social group of live music
consumers.
