During the past two decades, the body of empirical research on warning design and evaluation has grown. Consequently, there are now basic principles and guidelines addressing warning design (e.g., signal words, color, symbols, and text/content), placement (e.g., location), and how to enhance the usability of designs by considering factors internal to the user (e.g., beliefs, perceptions of risk, stress). Industrial & Public Safety Icons needs to be more recognizable due to Globalisation and liberalisation of Economies and due necessity to communicate message effectively and effortlessly. Even though Industrial & Public safety icons are becoming more consistent due to harmonization, they are not always recognized, which contributes to customer and worker dissatisfaction; customer and worker fatality, illness, and injury; material and equipment damage; and/or loss of corporate reputation. A pilot study in which readers/users identified industrial &public icons enabled an analysis on the recognition of the same. The results may influence Icon Design in ways that can improve user or recipient compliance with Warnings related to Icons used in Industry and Public Places.
