Introduction
I am an Engineer with 20+ years’ experience in automation and control systems. These systems have included elements of motion
control, vision, network, robotics, instrumentation, and software.
As a Controls Engineer, my job duties include:
 Identifying customer requirements
 Identifying process improvements
 Specifying electrical and systems components
 Creating schematic and system diagrams
 Generating 2D and/or 3D physical layouts of system
components.

Details are my life’s work. I am continually asking questions. Questions about what people need and how a machine control system
can be designed to meet their needs. If we first ask ourselves “What If..?”, potential problems can be addressed before they manifest.

Controls Engineer
BLOUNT INTERNATIONAL - Portland, OR 11/2010 - 12/2015
Responsible for engineering and programming control systems for the manufacture of chainsaw chain and components.
 Engineered and commissioned a path programmable inductive heat treat motion system in China.
 Programmed and commissioned a coordinated motion assembly machine consisting of 7 coordinated axes with “On-The-Fly”
multi-rivet compression.
Manufacturing Engineer
CONSOLIDATED METCO - Clackamas, OR 12/2004 – 11/2010
Primary Controls Engineer responsible for design of control systems for manufacture of die cast automotive components. Processes
included die casting and machining.
 Oversaw control systems development and implementation of a 7 robot machining cell.
 In addition to my standard duties, I assumed responsibility for the programming of the Coordinate Measuring Machines.
 Implemented plant-wide machine network including WonderWare monitoring.

Sole Engineer in charge of design of printing press control systems.
 Designed motor controls for refit to existing printing press systems in international markets.

 Interfaced with a wafer polishing machine manufacturer to expedite build revisions.

Primary Controls Engineer in charge of control systems for manufacture of sand cast parts used in the trucking industry.
 Developed controls for processing raw aluminum into cast parts.

Project Highlights
 Chain Bar Heat Treat
Designed and programmed controls for a machine which follows the contour of a metal bar and heat treats using
induction.
 Chain Assembly Machine
Designed and programmed controls for a machine which constructs chain and compresses rivets in motion.
 Roller Coaster Car Load / Unload System
Designed and commissioned a motion control system for loading passenger rail cars on the Mr. Freeze Roller Coasters at
Six Flags in San Antonio and St. Louis.
 Robotic Machining Cells
Oversaw controls development and implementation of a 7 robot / CNC machining system.
 Stud Inspection Camera
Developed a vision inspection system for checking stud height and presence. The system is accurate to 0.1mm.
 Remote Controlled Wastewater Reclamation System
Engineered and commissioned a radio controlled system for reclaiming wastewater from a food processing operation.
The system was demonstrated to the EPA as a method for water recovery.
 Automated Drum Coating Control System
Designed and commissioned a multi-axis motor control system for coating musical drums. These drums are in use by
well-known musicians.
 Citrus Packing Plant Motor Control System
Designed and oversaw commissioning of a motor control system for control of the largest citrus packing plant in the U.S.
 Rail Car Phosphorous Delivery System
Designed and commissioned a motor control system for positioning a rail car delivery system for levelling product levels
in a phosphorous production facility.
 Foam Extrusion System
Designed and commissioned a plant-wide system to control extrusion and processing of foam material using networked
PLC's and MMI’s.
 City of Portland – Columbia Boulevard Influent Pump System
Designed and commissioned the influent pump motor control centers for the City of Portland, Columbia Boulevard
Wastewater Treatment Plant. These pumps consisted of three 250HP drives with an additional 250HP soft-start.
