INTRODUCTION
SWOT analysis is a strategic planning and strategic
management techniques used to help a person or
organization identify Strengths, Weaknesses,
Opportunities, and Threats related to business
competition or project planning. It is sometimes
called situational assessment or situational analysis.
Example: Hindustan Unilever Limited
STRENGTH
 Strengths are defined as character traits or skills that are considered positive.
Strengths include knowledge, attributes, skills, and talents. Weaknesses are
just the opposite.
Hindustan Unilever Limited
With more than 80 years of experience in the consumer goods
market and backed by Unilever, which owns 67% of HUL, the
company is financially strong. Huge Market Share: Due to
high market penetration, HUL has managed to maintain its
high market share in various product categories.
Weaknesses
 Weaknesses stop an organization from performing at its optimum level. They
are areas where the business needs to improve to remain competitive: a weak
brand, higher-than-average turnover, high levels of debt, an inadequate supply
chain, or lack of capital
 Weaknesses. The biggest weakness that Unilever faces is that it operates in an
uber competitive market where the other global giants like P&G and Nestle in
addition to a host of local players challenge its dominance at every turn and
raise the stakes in the Trillion Dollar FMCG (Fast Moving Consumer Goods)
space.
OPPORTUNITIES
 Opportunities are openings or chances for something positive to happen, but you'll
need to claim them for yourself! They usually arise from situations outside your
organization, and require an eye to what might happen in the future. They might arise as
developments in the market you serve, or in the technology you use.
 Opportunities in the SWOT analysis of Hindustan Unilever ( HUL ) 1) Expanding
market: By penetrating more in the rural markets through its project Shakti AMMA and
transition of unorganized business to organized one will lead to further expansion of the
consumer goods market.
THREATS
 SWOT analysis might include increased competition, lack of
support, or language barriers. Threat examples for businesses
could include economic downturns, increased taxes, or losing key

 Intense and increasing competition amongst other FMCG
companies can affect business of HUL.
 FDI in retail thereby allowing international brands.
 Competition from unbranded and local products can hurt
Hindustan Unilever’s market

  • 5. STRENGTH  Strengths are defined as character traits or skills that are considered positive. Strengths include knowledge, attributes, skills, and talents. Weaknesses are just the opposite. Hindustan Unilever Limited With more than 80 years of experience in the consumer goods market and backed by Unilever, which owns 67% of HUL, the company is financially strong. Huge Market Share: Due to high market penetration, HUL has managed to maintain its high market share in various product categories.

They are areas where the business needs to improve to remain competitive: a weak brand, higher-than-average turnover, high levels of debt, an inadequate supply chain, or lack of capital  Weaknesses.
