MEANING:
The world trade organisation was
established on January1,1995. The WTO
Head office located in Geneva(Switzerland).
At present , The WTO has 169 members,
India being one of the founder member.

India’s exports are likely to be boosted
due to reduction of tariffs on the products of
exports interest to India. compulsion has been
imposed on India to be competitive in the
world market.

PREDICTABILITY
WTO rules provide greater protection against
bilateral pressures or restrictive trade
practices.arbitrary changes in the laws governing
trade and investment will not be made under the
WTO regune. Under WTO, member nations bind
their commitments so that conditions become
predictable and transparent.
7. POLICY ASSISTANCE
As a member of the WTO .
India can get assistance from the
international trade centre in
formulating and implementing export
promotion programmes.
8. SETTLEMENT OF DISPUTES
There are several concessions and
exemptions for developing countries
especially the least developed nations. There
are provisions tending special and differential
treatment to such countries. WTO has also
helped promotion of trade in services.
9. TECHNICAL ASSITANCE
Training programmes, regional
seminars and international conferences are
held regularly under the auspices of WTO.
About 100 technical cooperation missions
are organised ever year.

Quantitative restrictions and non-
tariff barriers to be removed under the
regime of WTO. Import restrictions are
allowed when country faces balance of
payments difficulties.
