Suzie is a mother of three children and a passionate advocate of social justice and child welfare.
She operates a private dietetic practice that includes two Brisbane Northside clinics treating children
and adults.

In Australia, the early childhood education and care (ECEC) setting is regulated by the National Quality Standards (NQS),
underpinned by the pedagogy ofthe Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF),and provides assessable guidelines for all aspects
of early childhood health and education,including nutrition.The majority ofAustralian preschool aged children attend ECEC
services, and it is a viable setting for research of eating b ehaviours in early life with a focus on establishing patterns oflifelong
healthy eating behaviour.Whilstmealtimes and snack times or eating occasions are a feature of every child’s day whilst atte nding
ECEC programs,little is known of how guidelines are interpreted in practice,children’s eating behaviours or howeating occasions
are perceived by children,caregivers or parents.This research by published papers will qualitatively examine policy
implementation in ECEC services,feeding practices,children’s eating behaviours and perceptions ofchildren,caregivers and
parents of eating occasions in ECEC services. It is intended thatthis research will contribute to the limited body ofresearch
regarding feeding practices and acquisition ofchildren’s healthy eating behaviours in ECEC services in Australia and provide
perspectives to gauge the practice outcomes associated with the nation-wide implementation ofthe NQS.

WHEN: Thursday25 February 2015 at 10:00 – 11:00am WHERE: Seminar Room,Level 5, Centre for Children’s Health Research (CCHR),South Bank PANEL MEMBERS: Dr Helen Vidgen (Principal Supervisor,Chair), Senior Research Fellow, School ofExercise and Nutrition Sciences,Faculty of Health,QUT Associate Professor Danielle Gallegos (Associate Supervisor), Director of International Engagementand Recruitment, School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences,Faculty of Health,QUT Professor Karen Thorpe (Associate Supervisor),School of Psychologyand Counselling,Faculty of Health,QUT Associate Professor Anthony Rossi (Panel Member), Discipline Lead, School ofExercise and Nutrition Sciences,Faculty of Health,QUT Dr Maryanne Theobald (External Panel Member), Senior Lecturer, School of Early Childhood, Faculty of Education,QUT School of Exercise and Nutrition Sciences In Australia, the early childhood education and care (ECEC) setting is regulated by the National Quality Standards (NQS), underpinned by the pedagogy ofthe Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF),and provides assessable guidelines for all aspects of early childhood health and education,including nutrition.The majority ofAustralian preschool aged children attend ECEC services, and it is a viable setting for research of eating b ehaviours in early life with a focus on establishing patterns oflifelong healthy eating behaviour.Whilstmealtimes and snack times or eating occasions are a feature of every child’s day whilst atte nding ECEC programs,little is known of how guidelines are interpreted in practice,children’s eating behaviours or howeating occasions are perceived by children,caregivers or parents.This research by published papers will qualitatively examine policy implementation in ECEC services,feeding practices,children’s eating behaviours and perceptions ofchildren,caregivers and parents of eating occasions in ECEC services. It is intended thatthis research will contribute to the limited body ofresearch regarding feeding practices and acquisition ofchildren’s healthy eating behaviours in ECEC services in Australia and provide perspectives to gauge the practice outcomes associated with the nation-wide implementation ofthe NQS.
