This presentation is aimed at explaining the concept of 'Sustainability' through a short story. The narrative for each slide is there in the notes. Hope this helps!
LegalShield offers brokers and agencies several commission options for selling its legal and identity theft protection plans, including:
1) A level compensation plan that pays commissions ranging from 12-16% on first year sales and renewals. An additional 2.6-3.4% bonus is paid for reaching certain sales thresholds.
2) An advanced compensation plan that pays higher first year commissions as an advance, ranging from 36-50.8% depending on sales volume. Renewal commissions are variable based on member retention rates.
3) Additional recognition and incentive programs, such as performance bonuses, that reward meeting sales and retention goals.
Reflection of oil prices to pump prices in Turkey Erol Metin
1. Recent fluctuations in global oil prices have significantly impacted markets and energy prices in Turkey. While Turkish pump prices largely reflect Mediterranean markets, currency effects in late 2014 and 2015 partially suppressed the impact of decreasing oil prices in Turkey.
2. Interventions by Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority have significantly reduced the reflection of oil price movements to consumers by masking impacts on distribution margins, which have remained largely stable over the past six years.
3. When taxation effects are removed and market differences are considered, Turkish pump prices are found to be competitive with Mediterranean markets.
Sarah Hamman (Center for Natural Lands Management) presented on a recent research project aimed at using multiple eradication methods to remove reed canary grass from sites along Muck Creek on JBLM. Sarah presented at the January 2017 NRC meeting.
Great Lakes coastal wetlands exist in severely altered watersheds and landscapes that can result in degraded wetland conditions (e.g., monotypic vegetation, invasive species), and management actions required to maintain biologically diverse wetlands can be ecologically limiting (e.g., diked wetlands with minimal hydrologic exchange). We report on three GLRI-funded projects designed to improve coastal wetland ecosystems by restoring hydrologic connectivity, increasing fish passage, and enhancing wetland ecosystem functions and services. Biological monitoring is an integral component of each project and includes traditional and innovative research efforts focused on results with broad application across the Great Lakes basin.

07 Pepsi Cola Cooler Sustainability With Hydrocarbons Soykan DirikKoeppen Halvart
PepsiCo has implemented a sustainability strategy to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from its cooling equipment by transitioning to more energy efficient systems and alternative refrigerants like hydrocarbons. In 2009, PepsiCo's initiatives led to a 48% reduction in energy usage and the introduction of 48 new efficient cooler models. PepsiCo also transitioned Turkey to become 100% powered by hydrocarbon refrigerants and approved 15 hydrocarbon models for broader use. The company aims to continue expanding the use of hydrocarbons and pursuing a dual strategy using hydrocarbons and carbon dioxide based on application and market regulations.
Wetland restoration, enhancement and creationPari Doll
This document discusses wetland restoration, enhancement, and creation. It defines key terminology like restoration, enhancement, and creation. It outlines 9 design principles for wetland restoration projects, including making systems self-sustaining, using a systems approach, and restoring structure and function. Considerations for restoration and enhancement projects are described, such as site selection, understanding degradation, and stakeholder input. Both active and passive approaches to wetland restoration are covered, as well as the use of treatment wetlands to improve water quality.
ecological restoration through landscape modification - munderikkadavuDeepak T C
Wetlands are called as “the kidneys of the landscape”. (CST, n.d.). Munderikkadavu is one of the important wetlands in the district of kannur, kerala. And is highly enriched with species diversities of birds, fishes, dragonflies, crabs etc. This paper intends to look upon the human interventions in the wetland of munderikkadavu; which has adversely affected the ecological balance of the ecosystem and then focuses upon the methods to mitigate the impacts of these activities. Secondly, it focuses upon the restoration of the lost ecological balance through the modification of landscape features as a tool for the restoration.

Editor's Notes
<Narrative>
I am going to talk to you about ‘Sustainability’. Trying to make sense of it in a non theoretical way, through a short story.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
The story is about a small island nation, lets call it ‘Acies’. Its 21 square kilometre in size, with a population of 9000 consisting of 12 native tribes.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
‘Acies had fresh water, fresh food and a clean environment and is untouched from the external world.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
The island gets explored 200 years ago.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
And a very rich amount of phosphate is found on the island.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
As all natural resources are treated, ‘Acies’ signed a perfect contract for trading phosphate.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
They started exporting phosphate and started importing a lot of money.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
With this the growth story of ‘Acies’ started.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
With the inflow of cash, every house hold at Acies started reaping the benefits of growth. Every house could even afford two cars. The island even got a paved road built around it.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Everyone could afford all the modern amenities available around the world.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Acies and its residents we importing all the things they needed, to a stage where their food was also imported.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
All the requirements of the residents – education, housing, electricity, communication – were free or highly subsidised.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
This went on to the stage where their healthcare was also imported.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
This is what we all know is called ‘Prosperity’ or ‘Development’ or ‘GDP Growth’
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
All of this continued very well for 150 years. Lets see what happens after that.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
After 150 years, Phosphate production starts declining – being a natural resource, limited in nature – it started exhausting.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
The immediate effect was – exploration cost going up - they had to dig deeper and wider.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Seeing this, MNCs / Mining Companies started exiting the island.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Unemployment rate started going up.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Crime rate also started increasing.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
And the GDP or Prosperity of the island nation started declining.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
The credit worthiness of the tiny island nation was in question and they could not import anymore.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
The stage was such that even the President’s house was put on sale to find more phosphate.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
And every one was confused as to what went wrong.
We would all assume that this is a theoretical story and humans are way too smart - for anything like this to happen to them.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
But this is a real life case of one of the smallest island nations on the face of the earth, situated off the coast of Australia which achieved independence in 1968. I would refrain from spelling its name in goodwill, lets call it TIL (Tiny Little Island).
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
So, how did the TIL reach - from here.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
To here.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
From a perfect contract
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Which provided them with good life
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Where they could afford anything they wanted.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
To a place where even the President did not have a place to live.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Something somewhere had gone tribally wrong for TIL.
There was one thing, one factor which consistently went wrong with TIL and its residents in all their aspects, that one factor was -
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
‘Sustainable’ – Whatever TIL and its residents were doing was not sustainable.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Their - Consumption
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Production
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Trade Balance
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Life Style
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Human Capital Management
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Financial Capital Management
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Natural Capital Management
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Overall their ‘Development’ was not sustainable.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
These two terms linked together – ‘Sustainable Development’ – have been a topic for research for more than 2 decades now. Lets discuss this briefly at the end.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Now that we have discussed the term ‘Sustainable’, lets introduce the term ‘Sustainability’.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
‘Sustainability’ is the property of being sustainable with is genesis in the word ‘Sustain’.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
Sustainable Development was first coined in 1987 by Brundtland commission in their report. Which says – Sustainable development is development which meets the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs.
Which means that if we are consuming 100 gallons of Oil per capita, our future generation should be able to consume at the same rate. If we are growing at a 6% GDP annually, the future generation should also be able to grow at the same rate.
It implies that we are just custodians of the earth and not the owners. Exhausting resources, not investing in the right practices and mismanagement of assets will lead us to leaving a planet which is exploited and sub-standard for the future generations.
So, Sustainable Development is an approach where we balance all the 3 responsibilities – economic, environmental and social – for a better future.
<Switch Slide>
<Narrative>
With this I thank you for your time and undivided attention.
