GDG Cloud Southlake #33: Boule & Rebala: Effective AppSec in SDLC using Deplo...James Anderson
Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.
Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!
Securing your Kubernetes cluster_ a step-by-step guide to success !KatiaHIMEUR1
Today, after several years of existence, an extremely active community and an ultra-dynamic ecosystem, Kubernetes has established itself as the de facto standard in container orchestration. Thanks to a wide range of managed services, it has never been so easy to set up a ready-to-use Kubernetes cluster.
However, this ease of use means that the subject of security in Kubernetes is often left for later, or even neglected. This exposes companies to significant risks.
In this talk, I'll show you step-by-step how to secure your Kubernetes cluster for greater peace of mind and reliability.

1. Steps to be Sustainable Steven Shearing Tommy Stupp
2. Deforestation Thousands of square mile have been cut down each year. Species driven out of home Drastic change in temperature Soil is dried up Destruction of the Ecosystem
3.
4.
5.
6.
7. Steps to Be Sustainable: Endangered Species Plant native trees and plants in your area. Do not buy animal furs or animal parts. -EX: Black Rhino’s horn Stop buying so much wood
8. Acid Rain Acid Rain: rain that contains more than normal amounts of nitric and sulfuric acid. Hurts Animals Destroys Trees Accelerates Decay Destroys Ecosystem
9.
10. Steps To Be Sustainable: Acid Rain Cleaning out Smokestacks and pipes Using coal with less sulfur Switching from fossil fuels to other energy
11. Pollution Pollution: is the introduction of contaminants into an environment that causes instability, disorder, harm or discomfort to the ecosystem Smog and Acid Rain created Holes in Ozone Harmful to human health Dangerous to animals Harmful to ecosystem
12.
13. Steps to be Sustainable: Pollution Don’t Smoke Adequate Ventilation Careful use of chemicals Reduce emissions from mining, smelting, generating, oil operations, etc. Reduce use of natural gas and wood burning … Reduce usage
14. Overfishing Over 70% of world’s fisheries are over-exploited Destruction and harmful changing of ecosystems
15.
16. Steps to Be Sustainable: Overfishing Be informed- Research articles, Find information on local problems Know what you eat- Eat the kinds of fish with least impact Spread the word
17. Trash Waste Trash Waste: Overuse of Materials Littering Littering: Don’t Care, Don’t Know, Lazy 409,000 million tons thrown out only out of U.S. each year Consequences: Trash island two times Texas in Pacific. Harmful to the Environment Kills animals and pollutes and clutters land
18.
19. Steps to Be Sustainable: Trash Waste STOP LITTERING! Use cloth napkins Use sealable containers instead of plastic Reuse cardboard boxes Reuse materials Recycle
20. Overall All problems out there that humans have created are destroying not the earth, but the ecosystems on the earth. The ecosystems in which humans and other animals and plants live in. We are destroying not only all those animals and plants, we are destroying ourselves. It is not the earth that needs saving, but the human race. The human race needs to become more sustainable, the human race needs to fix the problems that it has created.
21. So how can you be Sustainable? Plant more trees, indigenous to your area. Stop buying wood from lumber companies Plant native trees and plants in your area. Do not buy animal furs or animal parts. Stop buying so much wood. Cleaning out Smokestacks and pipes Using coal with less sulfur Switching from fossil fuels to other energy Don’t Smoke Adequate Ventilation Careful use of chemicals Reduce emissions from mining, smelting, generating, oil operations. Reduce use of natural gas and wood burning Be informed on overfishing Eat the kinds of fish with least impact Spread the word on overfishing Stop Littering Reuse materials Recycle
