Boosting Response Rates
• If there’s one thing everyone wants, it’s
higher response rates.
• More answers mean more data to be
analyzed, and more feedback to power
decisions.
• In addition to best practices (short survey,
clear purpose, audience awareness, some
tech choices can have a big impact.
• Survey logic, data pre-population, and
answer piping are just a few examples of
features that can boost engagement and
raise response rates.
• In SoGoSurvey 21.0, we rolled out a new
option to improve focus. We call it Focus
Mode (surprise!).
Focus: Questions & Flow
• Before you turn to technology to solve
focus issues, ask yourself: Are all of these
questions really necessary?
• Once you’ve figured out which questions
are necessary, figure out the order and
arrangement.
• How many questions belong on each
page? Which belong together? What’s the
best presentation order?
• Remember that a good questionnaire is
like a conversation. The flow should feel
natural from start to finish, focusing on one
area or topic at a time.
Focus: One At A Time
• The reality is, looking at one question at a
time can be a helpful way to focus.
• While one question at a time looks great on
our mobile app surveys, including just one
question per page on a web survey could
result in an excessive number of pages
and annoying navigation.
• Remember that you’re trying to keep
participants engaged. Even “thumb fatigue”
is enough to cause some people to drop
out after too many questions or pages.
Focus: Success
• Focus Mode allows you to draw
participants’ attention to a single question
at a time by fading out the rest.
• To amplify the focus, expand the vertical
space between questions so the focus
question is alone in the center of the page.
• As participants answer single-select
questions, focus automatically shifts to the
next question, encouraging ongoing
participation.
• If you prefer, require participants to click an
arrow after completing each item to confirm
that they’re ready to move on.
Final Thoughts
• Technology isn’t the answer to everything,
but powerful features like Focus Mode can
have a big impact on engagement,
response rates, and data quality.
• Review the options you prefer with your
team and test participants before you go
live to ensure that everything’s functioning
as you expect and that your audience will
find it easy to go with the flow.

  • 2. How engaged are your participants?
  • 4. • If there’s one thing everyone wants, it’s higher response rates. • More answers mean more data to be analyzed, and more feedback to power decisions.
  • 5. • In addition to best practices (short survey, clear purpose, audience awareness, some tech choices can have a big impact. • Survey logic, data pre-population, and answer piping are just a few examples of features that can boost engagement and raise response rates.
  • 6. • In SoGoSurvey 21.0, we rolled out a new option to improve focus. We call it Focus Mode (surprise!).
  • 8. • Before you turn to technology to solve focus issues, ask yourself: Are all of these questions really necessary?
  • 9. • Once you’ve figured out which questions are necessary, figure out the order and arrangement. • How many questions belong on each page? Which belong together? What’s the best presentation order?
  • 10. • Remember that a good questionnaire is like a conversation. The flow should feel natural from start to finish, focusing on one area or topic at a time.
  • 11. Focus: One At A Time
  • 12. • The reality is, looking at one question at a time can be a helpful way to focus.
  • 13. • While one question at a time looks great on our mobile app surveys, including just one question per page on a web survey could result in an excessive number of pages and annoying navigation.
  • 14. • Remember that you’re trying to keep participants engaged. Even “thumb fatigue” is enough to cause some people to drop out after too many questions or pages.
  • 16. • Focus Mode allows you to draw participants’ attention to a single question at a time by fading out the rest.
  • 17. • To amplify the focus, expand the vertical space between questions so the focus question is alone in the center of the page.
  • 18. • As participants answer single-select questions, focus automatically shifts to the next question, encouraging ongoing participation.
  • 19. • If you prefer, require participants to click an arrow after completing each item to confirm that they’re ready to move on.
  • 21. • Technology isn’t the answer to everything, but powerful features like Focus Mode can have a big impact on engagement, response rates, and data quality.
  • 22. • Review the options you prefer with your team and test participants before you go live to ensure that everything’s functioning as you expect and that your audience will find it easy to go with the flow.
