Suppose you were asked to recommend changes to the UN Security Council (especially in permanent membership and veto power). What changes would you recommend, if any? What is your logic for this recommendation? Please give THREE distinct, concise and logical reasons for your recommendation. Your recommendation should be “Yes, I recommend changes” or “No, I do not recommend changes” and then provide your three reasons. (Note: It is very important that you keep in mind what you have learned thus far this semester: the very nature of the international system and nation-states themselves, distribution of power and capabilities, and the existence of relevant norms and institutions. These notions will be important as you evaluate the question and craft an acceptable response.) Solution Yes I recommend changes due to following reasons 1 in security council is not representative of all people of world. It represents only some countries without any rational justification. E. G India which has worlds 2nd largest population is neglected 2 world conditions have changed since then. Now Un bodies like security council do not represent nations as per their importance E G Germany which is an economic power has been neglected 3 security council etc has served interests of only few countries. These countries are often against one another. Hence no meaningful resolution is formed. Large number of members will reduce influence of one or two members and make decision making much better.
